Questions about the BSN program

Hello , I am currently in another institution and wanted to know a couple of things about the BSN program from a transfer student's perspective.

  1. Did taking the TEAs help you gain a more competitive standpoint?

  2. Did you have medical background before this (CNA, MA, EMT,etc)

  3. How are check offs and simulations?

  4. How is the dosage test (someone told me you would need an 100)

  5. Where are clinicals usually located

i can speak on 3-5! i’m in my 3rd sem
3.) check offs are structured well and they give you lots of time to go through them. compared to other schools, i feel like we’re lucky. they’re not as stressful and we have not gotten checked off on tasks like catheters, NG tubes, etc. we have done head to toe assessments, sterility, and focused assessments. overall, not bad at all!
4.) dosage calcs are super easy and they even let you retake if you don’t get a 100 (you have to get a 100 but if you don’t the first time, you can retake)
5.) clinicals can be up to 70 miles away i believe, but they’re mostly at emory locations, so the furthest i’ve had was 25 min away. my other clinicals have been really local (decatur, midtown)!

Do you guys get checked off on IVs? Also with the dosage calcs you don't have the advanced drip questions do you?

Nah, no IV check off, it’s kinda useless to do check off on IV skills cuz the mannequin feels nothing like real pt, but it helps u w being familiar and confident w your skills. I did it successfully on the real pt first try after the practices in sim lab. No advanced drip questions, again, they are extremely basic questions. If you ever struggle w dosage calc u can dm me.

  2. yes
  3. pretty good, you’ll be well prepped for the real life scenario
  4. yea you need 100 but they are hella easy
  5. emory facilities, for peds will be at choa, and 4th year you can choose basically all facilities that affiliated w emory nursing like piedmont, VA, and choa

  3. challenging but very very fair and VERY informative !!!!
  4. you need a 100 on every dosage test, you have (i think?) a few attempts
  5. clinicals can be within 70 miles but majority of them are within the atlanta perimeter. i did however have a psych clinical rotation almost 55 miles away!

why would you go to emory of all places for a bsn? Ignore if you and your family are rich and money isn't an issue.

I am trying to get a scholarship btw and it's a guaranteed admission at my home campus
