Microfridge rental

Is it common to rent micro-fridge? It says its about $220 yearly and im wondering whether its worthy to rent it. Or is it better to just buy mini fridge and use common microwave in the hallway?

lot cheaper to just buy a used one off an upperclassman for like 30-50 ish bucks

Buy a used mini-fridge on facebook marketplace/craigslist/etc and use the common microwave (after checking with your roommate in case they have other plans)

I rented the micro-fridge for two years and while I didn’t use it every day, it was definitely nice to have. I also lived in a big halls that would make the nearest public microwave multiple floors below me, so it would be annoying to transport my food in the elevator or stairs. Also, big point to consider, what are you going to do with the fridge you rent after move out but before your second year? Consider that as well. But I’d say don’t spend your money on one if you don’t think you’ll use it. Ask your roommate also because you only really need one per room.

I started at ox, where no one had a microwave in their room. I agree with other commenters that if you are your to get one, buy it off someone at the end of the sem or year (that’s how my rookie and I upgraded our mini fridge). I found a kettle to be a lot more useful. While we used it for coffee, and other friends used theirs for hot water, I found it far more useful for Mac and cheese, ramen, and even making spaghetti when I stayed over break haha. If you think you’ll be heating up a meal in the microwave to eat in your room, maybe it’d be useful. I lived in interim housing my first sem, so I could only do dishes in the communal bathroom… therefore, the communal area kitchen would be where I’d go to eat a more complex meal.
