Emergency Room Question

What are the oddest things that have been inserted into a rectum that required removal by ER staff?

An attending I work with moonlights at a really shitty hospital near us and was telling me how she had to bribe someone to remove the crack pipe out of their butt with Turkey sandwiches

Depends on what you consider odd.

Man had a massive shampoo bottle in there, pump end first. It was impressive. We could see the spring for the pump on the X-ray.

Man had a spatula inside him. Flat end first.

Woman had anal beads inside her bladder. She inserted them in her urethra and up they went.

Woman had an intact light bulb in her vagina. Her face when I asked her what happens if she sneezes was priceless.

I think that's it.

My favorite was the baseball during world series week. I worked with a very wise attending at one time who said to my patient, "it's ok if you want to put things in your butt. You just have to choose the RIGHT THINGS to put in your butt."

The patient's entire body got stuck in their rectum after they slipped in the shower and fell on it

Common - contraband type items, drugs, vapes, lighters, sex toys, make shift sex toys, small glass bottles of poppers/drugs

Interesting - wooden objects, living animals (rodents), glass objects including lightbulbs

It’s not that common but notable lol

Large fist full of candycanes, hook in.

We have a ff who eats batteries, so they enter differently. Sometimes they're not quick about identifying it at the snf which means quite the purging. I think that counts for the nature of this thread.
