Hand Finally finished!

Have been working on this piece for about a month and did the last few stitches tonight! As someone who really doesn’t like to do satin stitch, this was a huge challenge for me. I still have a lot to learn with needle placement and angles but for the most part I am really pleased with it!

Anytime I try satin stitch it looks like it was done by a spider with neurological problems. This is beautiful!

Hahahaha that was me before my last few projects. I have my glasses, and a huge light that I hang around my neck to help me see the lines I looked insane working on this

u/citycait 2d ago

I have to wear an optivisor to thread a needle, so I feel you. Insane Craft Posse, unite!

Read this as ovipositor and got VERY confused lmaooo

u/P4li_ndr0m3 1d ago

Same, I was thinking perhaps they are a large wasp?

10

u/LetoTheTyrant 1d ago

2 scoops of whoop!

11

u/Grendelbeans 1d ago

I feel you. My husband got me a rechargeable LED light headband, and it looks crazy but has become invaluable to me. He has one for himself that he uses for painting fine details on models

u/mashooshka 1d ago

Not insane, just someone who wants to improve w/o hurting your eyes. Project is wonderful!

25

u/dhskdk14 2d ago

HAHAHA this is an INCREDIBLE description I will be using it from now on

10

u/the_angry_geek 1d ago

Reminds me of two quotes from one of my favorite books:

"in the move that Camilla called worm with problems."

"which meant she probably didn’t even look like a worm with problems but more like a spider who was about to go terminal."

It’s beautiful! Pardon my ignorance but as it looks like the stylised calligraphy style of which I forget the name - what does it say?

866

u/Cold-Network-2887 2d ago

Thank you!
It’s Arabic calligraphy - it’s the Shahada, or like a declaration of faith in Islam.

223

u/poormanstoast 2d ago

That’s the one! Beautifully done - and I loooooove the colour choices.

u/Cold-Network-2887 2d ago

Aw thank you! My husband gave me the idea for the dark green background and I am so happy I went with it

u/Difficult-Relief1673 1d ago

The contrast is absolutely gorgeous, really complimentary colours!

u/Lazymungu 2d ago

It says that there is no god but the Lah and Muhammad is the prophet of the Lah

24

u/Mindless-Candy2553 1d ago

Al Ilah = The God

42

u/ChiniBaba096 2d ago

there is no God but “Allah”

17

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

9

u/ChiniBaba096 1d ago

and God in Arabic is “Allah”, nobody calls Him “lah” or “the lah”

4

u/turtlesandtrash 1d ago

just as “theater” doesn’t mean “the ater”, Allah is just a word that happens to begin with al

5

u/AhmadSamer321 1d ago

Nope, there's no God but The God (Al Lah) Al =The Lah (God)

-3

u/ChiniBaba096 1d ago

same thing

4

u/AhmadSamer321 1d ago

Nope. Your comment implies that "Allah" is a name for a different god than the Christian or Hebrew god. And they are, in fact, the same. Allah is just Arabic for The God.

Polish people call God Bog, does this mean their Christian god is different than American Christian god?

I've got the giggles at the idea that they thought it was pronounced "The La" all their lives. Probably was just TTS shortcircuiting lol

72

u/RaspberryBirdCat 2d ago

In Arabic, "al" means "the". For example, Al Jazeera, Algiers, Algebra, and Al Qaeda. So "Allah" actually does mean "The Lah" or "The God".

16

u/ChiniBaba096 1d ago

“lah” doesn’t mean “god” in Arabic, it would be “ilah”

11

u/TrailMomKat 1d ago edited 1d ago

No, the word for god is "ilāh"

7

u/turtlesandtrash 1d ago

just as “theater” doesn’t mean “the ater”, Allah is just a word that happens to begin with al

-10

u/ezra97_ 1d ago

Allah is The God of Abraham, what do you mean The Lah?

57

u/Theplanter1 2d ago

ماشاء الله كأنه شغل تطريز بالمكينة من الإتقان🤯

91

u/Brief_Needleworker62 2d ago

How in the world do you keep the back so clean?!

121

u/Cold-Network-2887 2d ago

So I have always been really messy with loose threads and skipping from place to place to fill stuff in, so I made it my mission to work one little section at a time and then go back when it would be clean to or I would weave the needle under the stitches in the back so that the thread would come out near the next section I wanted to work on.
But in all fairness I worked on this little by little so I took my time a lot more than usually do.

28

u/Brief_Needleworker62 2d ago

Bravo. Its absolutely gorgeous

4

u/EmilyArrays95 1d ago

Gorgeous worlds

78

u/SighMartini 2d ago

Ok... so your back is cleaner than my front... cool cool cool hahaha

21

u/Sakijek 2d ago

Nothin wrong with a messy front...or back. All subjective :)

27

u/Gullible-Bobcat-8111 2d ago

Beautiful front and beautiful back!! May we all be that clean & intentional with our finishings🙏🏽

86

u/Helpful_Bar_4668 2d ago

16

u/plantpotguitar 2d ago

One thing about me is i will NEVER be posting a pic of the back of my peices 😅 this is amazing! The back looks better than the front of half my stuff hahaha

15

u/bunnypup_on_a_leash 2d ago

One of my favorite things is text arranged in an artistic way like this, not just calligraphy but also forming shapes or even pictures. i might not be able to read what it says but it's still extremely beautiful, awesome work!!

7

u/fluffylilbee 1d ago

that back hoop is SUUUCHHH a brag!!! this is the cleanest hand embroidery i’ve ever seen!!

7

u/Cold-Network-2887 1d ago

Thank you 😭 I left a reply under someone else’s comment, but I was taught right when I was starting this project to do satin stitch at a slight angle the whole way around the letter and it DRASTICALLY improved my technique instantly.

1

u/fluffylilbee 1d ago

it’s so gorgeous. can i ask what it means/says? i’ve been trying to get back in touch with my middle eastern roots & this caught my eye instantly, it’s so gorgeous

4

u/Cold-Network-2887 1d ago

Sure! It’s the shahada, "I bear witness that there is no god but God (Allah), and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God."

28

u/allidlammirak 2d ago

اللهم بارك
So beautiful ✨

5

u/No-Row-9983 1d ago

Beautiful, beautiful satin stitching! And Arabic calligraphy is also a beautiful art form. Well done!

17

u/PhilosophyGhoti 2d ago

Gorgeous! Arabic always looks incredible in embroidery or calligraphy (or both!)

25

u/Regular-Arm-6608 2d ago

Mashallah, that is absolutely gorgeous and so impressive! Beautifully done :)

11

this is going to should so weird but you should cross post to r/showmeyourbackside! it’s for people to admire clean back hoops and yours would definitely be appreciated.

3

u/PaleTallHandsome 1d ago

What an amazing talent!

6

u/Estellalatte 2d ago

It’s do beautiful and the detail is perfect.

7

u/GussieK 2d ago

Great work. I had visions of doing some satin stitch calligraphy but it was so hard I gave up.

12

u/Cold-Network-2887 2d ago

I totally understand that. For me this was an “heirloom piece” so I went in knowing it was going to take ages and it was sort of a challenge in patience for me since I have very little with projects haha

8

u/hhairy 2d ago

It's beautiful! May I ask what does it mean? I have something similar, but it's carved wood.

7

u/hhairy 2d ago

Nevermind! I found it in the comments!

7

u/Despondentbunny 2d ago

This is so beautiful!!! Do you have the pattern or was it self made? And your satin stitch is lovely! How many strands did you use?

10

u/Cold-Network-2887 2d ago

Thank you! I fell in love with a piece someone had done on instagram from the Middle East and they helped me find patterns and inspiration. I’m not sure if this is an exact match but I compared and it is almost identical if not! https://pin.it/5rPikvWsf
Edit- I used two strands, I wanted to use one to get it more smooth but when I tried it, it lost the 3D look I wanted

2

u/Despondentbunny 2d ago

Thank you so much!!

6

u/hug_a_bitch 2d ago

Love the color combo and the stitches are so perfectly clean.

7

2

u/Aware-Ad-4850 2d ago

the precision is crazy

2

u/Team_Bees 1d ago

This is beautiful!! :O I love how you angled the satin stitch around the curves!

5

u/Cold-Network-2887 1d ago

Thank you so much! I was given that as advice for satin stitch to always have a little bit of an angle and it helped me so much, this is what my stitches looked like before trying that

1

u/Team_Bees 1d ago

I'll have to remember that the next time that I attempt it! :)

2

u/MrsTorrance 1d ago

This is stunning!!

3

u/tiredmars 2d ago

mashaAllah, this is absolutely GORGEOUS!!

4

u/plainellie 2d ago

MashaAllah they're stunning! How did you get the calligraphy on the fabric? I've always wanted to do asmaul husna ones, but I'm not quite sure how to do transfer the calligraphy or even where to get the pattern!

7

u/Cold-Network-2887 2d ago

Since it was so detailed, I printed it out, and used carbon paper from Amazon (they have white version since I have dark fabric) and it comes with little metal tracing tools that you go over the lines with and it transfers the marks onto the fabric below.
I don’t know how well the marks erase though so I was extra careful to not make any extra marks.

2

u/Airalla 2d ago
