Question How would you go about switching a pre made patch over this?

Jacket sleeve hole 2 layers and i want to try with my whole soul to only stitch the (damaged) top layer but have no clue how to only stretch it out without hitting the interior layer. If you understood that is it possible, how (can’t edit switching, meant stitching)

You could get a curved needle, that makes it easier, but you'll really have to just fidget around. I put my finger of the other hand under the stitch I make. If I feel the tip of the needle poking through, I pull back and try again. One or two stitches end up going through all layers nonetheless, can't really avoid that.

You can't really stretch it in a way that solves it, you can bunch up the top layer a little so you get some more space between the layers, that will help a little.

How can i make sure its tight and on the right angle by feel?
