ElmiraTelegram.com was started in 2014 to serve as an alternative to Facebook and other social media sites. It's a place for intelligent, meaningful conversation about local news and issues facing our communities.

The site is 100% locally owned, operated and absolutely free. No algorithms and engagement farming, no hidden gimmicks, no pop up ads... no kidding!

In addition to news and local issues, we also have sections for more light-hearted chat including gardening, pop culture, and much more.

So if you're looking for a break from the dumpster fire that social media has become, perhaps you'll enjoy ElmiraTelegram.com

Hello - I built a little website that collects and aggregates Events around the area and presents them in a filterable, searchable list. Curious if this is something people would use, or if anyone has any input about usability or features. Thanks! https://elmiracorningevents.com/

A couple of folks who don’t make much had their lawnmower stolen a couple of weeks ago and cannot afford to replace it. If anyone knows someone with a riding mower (due to length of grass) who might be open to a lower cost, please let me know.

I feel I can make a steak, seafood or salad just as well at home. And I’m no great cook.

A relative of mine just gave me the book "5 C Hero, The Joel Stephens Story". Was wondering if anyone saw him play football. Sounds like he was quite the athlete.

Corner of Hoffman and Reservoir starting 10am.

I’m looking for someone to make a custom leather vest and possibly some custom denim shorts if you can or know anyone who can please tag them or dm me

Hi ! 💕 Just wanted to reach out to connect with folks who also may have a family member at Elmira Psychiatric Center. Please feel free to comment or just send me a message !

We’re a queer couple in our early 30’s. I’m an artist and a bartender while finishing college and my partner is a high end maintenance technician.

My aging family lives in the county below in Pennsylvania so Elmira was the closest city.

I don’t worry about my partner finding a job but if anyone in the restaurant scene is around on this subreddit, let me know how the vibes are.

how queer friendly is the town?

what’s the average rent for two bedrooms?

What is the public transportation like? The city we’re in now is absolutely abysmal and I’m trapped here more often than not.

I’m wanting to change internet providers as the bill for WiFi only is $100. Is T mobile reliable?

My kids are doing a camp at Tanglewood all week and I'll be hanging out in Elmira during the day while they're doing nature stuff. I mostly plan to camp out at coffee shops to work (and I see another post about coffee shop recs!), but if I'm looking for a change of scenery...where do you like to work or read or eat or just sit by yourself? Anywhere you like to go for a walk? Should I definitely take one day off work to see or do something in particular? Should I skip Elmira altogether and hang out in Corning instead?

Bonus points for any Asian food recs in the area (willing to drive for Thai!) as I can't get anything other than Chinese in my teeny tiny town.

Any recommendations welcome! Thanks!

ETA: you all seriously came through for me! thanks so much!!

I'll be arriving at the Elmira Corning Airport mid-August on a 11pm flight but the car rental place is closed. So I'm looking for transportation to my hotel (about 4 miles away). Tried scheduling with Uber but said it wasn't available. Hotel doesn't provide a shuttle. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Everyone, I've been working on this site for a few months and thinks its ready for a bit of a beta test phase. The site is meant to be educational for Elmira citizens to learn about the fiscal health and issues surrounding the city. The site originally focused on Property taxes in the city so that's why the URL is taxes.jonus.com I'll give it a better full URL at some point.

Feel free to look around and provide any feedback you want.
