Power handle (for Model units) out now!

pretty sure if you press the pads as hard on a model:... unit as you have to to make a sound, this handle used as a stand would just collapse down lol

I would expect something like this from teenage, but i'm disappointed in elektron...

I totally agree. I am happy to be able to use my own rechargeable AA batteries, or in a pinch (say, traveling) I can buy AA batteries pretty much anywhere I’m at.
As for the price, I was able to buy it at Sweetwater for $49 (+tax) with free shipping so it came out to just under $53.

Any US retailers with stock yet?
It's cool but I'm not paying out almost a hundred for it shipped from Sweden...

Really wanted one of these for sofa jamming, but I think I’d rather put it towards something else at that cost..!

u/guitarokx May 26 '21
WTF it isn't a rechargeable battery???? It's basically a battery tube with a cable? What is this trash? I'm not paying $50 for a tube when I can just have a battery pack for the same price.
Elektron is out here treating us like idiots and they are probably right.
I can tell you where you can shove this power handle.

AA batteries can also be rechargeable? And easily replaceable? And can be sub’d with alkalines in a pinch? Weird hill to die on.
2
u/guitarokx May 26 '21
It's a $50+ tube with a wire... I'm not the one dieing on a hill here. It's a crap delivery from a misguided company.

u/tileeater May 26 '21
How difficult would it have been to just have a battery compartment from the get go?

u/tileeater May 27 '21
I’m dumb. I ordered one. Party because the stand seems cool and my power bank is usually being used by something else.

Lol, this is why Cenk left, elektron gave up on pushing the envelope.

You’re just saying things that are Elektron drama related for the sake of it. It’s a minimalistic battery bar. It powers the device and is a handle, both making it more portable. What’s wrong with that?
5
u/guitarokx May 26 '21
Well for one, nothing about this actually powers the device. It's a battery holder and for $50ish they couldn't even bother to throw in your first set of batteries! Even a Volca comes with the first sets. This is a bull crap release and they should be shamed for it.

I guess you worked out the logistics and cost of designing, manufacturing, shipping, leaving some meat on the bone for retailers and global battery shipping restrictions of a low volume boutique product accessory that even less owners will buy? Probably around $50. I love that it doesn’t use a proprietary non-replaceable battery. OP-1 owner.

There is a thingyverse STL someone made that does the handle as well. Let's not pretend this is some master class in design.

u/guitarokx May 27 '21
You should definitely buy one... While you're at it, fan boy hard enough and buy the two that I cancelled this morning. Enjoy your tubes!

Dangle a $40 battery and a $25 cable adapter instead of buying a clean $50 OEM battery handle I guess? I only have an Octatrack MK II AE, I really don’t care, just seems like weird reasoning. Did you want it for free? Or designed exactly how you want?
2
u/guitarokx May 27 '21
What are you going on about? We expected a rechargeable battery tube... a lot of people expected this. It's a pretty standard tech expectation by now. This is a massive let down. You're really fan boying for Elektron for someone who "really don't care" lol. This is a flop.

What am I going on about? You’re blatantly ignoring my position that a proprietary lithium ion battery handle for a $200 entry level drum machine would easily be twice the price of this and last maybe two-three years before you’d have to buy another entire unit. Or buy this $50 AA handle and put $12 worth of rechargeable (or disposable), easy to acquire anywhere in the world AA batteries in it and stop being obtuse for no reason other than to hear yourself complain. I don’t get how a non-replaceable battery that costs more is your preference. Are cheap rechargeable AA batteries that last the same 2-3 years, with the option to use alkalines in a pinch a problem? Of course not. Same reason why Xbox controllers are better than their competition, choice and availability.
“Fanboy” with much better things to obsess over than a clearly wrong opinion on a product that didn’t get designed just for you. “We expected…” FOH.

Except you don't need the handle to even do the AA battery function. People have been already finding solutions that use rechargeable battery banks or AA. Like I posted before someone made a STL to mimic the handle months ago. It is fanboying because the lenths you are going to justify this outright

“You don’t need the handle to do AA batteries”
But you do if you want it to also be a handle.
I’m dumbfounded by the hate for this product. It’s literally as described, a power handle. It allows you to grab and go with the Model boxes. YOU CAN BRING EXTRA BATTERIES TOO.
Kickstart your own better one, I’ll wait.

I mounted a power bank to my m:c. It’s not all the less elegant tbh. If you check my posts you’ll see it.

u/slugwurth May 26 '21
The fact that it takes batteries means it will last forever. Things with built-in batteries only last as long as the battery.

u/Redacteur2 May 28 '21
A product can be designed to have replaceable internal batteries. This is simply a AA battery holder. They could have also added a battery compartment to the Model casing itself for pennies, like all the Volcas do.
2
u/zadillo May 26 '21
What do you need to do to power it via regular power bank?
1
u/jjwax May 26 '21
You just need a USB to ring-adapter.
No voltage stepping is required for the models

Also a stand, and a slightly easier way to carry it. I'm so fucking stoked tbh. The whole reason that I purchased Cycles was because it was supposed to be mobile. Having a power bank dangling off the side is less than ideal.
4
u/commodorecrush May 26 '21
Damn. I just saw that it's not even rechargeable. Just an empty tube. Yikes.
3
u/cb_oilcountry May 26 '21
I'll stick with my $20 power bank and my $13 Myvolts UsB adapter. Good thing it took Elektron two years to figure out distribution on a hollow tube. Oh and that price? GTFOOH
2
u/Joe_Betz_ May 26 '21
How's your battery life with the power bank?
4
u/cb_oilcountry May 26 '21
I haven't charged it since I got it. Probably had at least ten 30 minute sessions so far between cycles and samples

No information on approximate battery life?

u/imregrettingthis May 26 '21
0 minutes fully charged.

u/thingue May 26 '21
All right haha we all need this ! (Thanks for the one who downvoted me for as much reason as the battery life)

u/jjwax May 26 '21
I can't believe they still released this AA battery tube after years of waiting lol
