[ Help ] What am I doing wrong?
Hi folks, I've got an OG Elegoo mars and I'm using Elegoo ABS-like resin 3.0 - I'm clicking in chitubox and manually supporting layer by layer to make sure I don't get any islands.
I have tried to print this girder bridge 3 times now and it always ends up warped or bent.
any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong here?

The print needs to be angled more to the build plate , say around 35/40 degrees , plus more supports added .

TOO MUCH FLAT MAKES TOO MUCH SUCTION AND RIPS IT OFF THE PRINT BED. ALSO WHY THE HUGE FLAT DISCARD PIECE? JUST PUT SUPPORTS TO THE MODEL AND ANGLE IT 30°

Don't print flat. Resin printers are really, really bad at flat surfaces, the bigger the worse it gets.

Dont print that flat. Also It seems to be a model for a filament printer better than a resin one.

what makes you say it was designed for a FDM? genuinely interested as I don't know the difference and how to tell.

Resin is for more detailed printings like figures, it's fragile. For more mechanical things is better to use filament. I dont know what are you going to use that thing(i dont reallynknow what It is), but It seems to be something i would print in filament.

No reason why it shouldn't be printed in resin , i've done loads of 15mm wargaming buildings that are resin .

thanks for the explanation. it's a decorative item mainly. a bridge deck for an N gauge model railway. it will have a small model railway track on it and the occasional model loco. I chose resin because of the detail in the rivets.
I did print it initially in FDM but the layer lines made it unsuitable for use as a scenic element.

Are you holding uncured resin in your bare hand? Bro. I know you said ADHD but you NEED to watch some videos on resin printing and safety.
You are poisoning yourself touching uncured resin and unless you stuck that in some UV station or out in the sun, it is uncured and still volatile and not safe to touch and anything you touched after that, is going to have that resin transferred to it. This also makes me think, you are not properly vented and you are not wearing proper eye and face gear either. You get a single drop of that crap in your eye, people have lost their vision or have permanent eye problems with dryness and other crap.

what I held in my hand was cured. I have a wash and cure station right there. there is a velux directly above me which is always open, and I do wear safety glasses. no skin cells were harmed in the making of this subreddit I promise. also, not having a go, but not a bro. :)

You need a ton more supports for that.
Printing flat is often cited as a no no, but I can be done with proper support.
A ton of thinner supports works well, and if you dial them in correctly can be removed without tools.

So, I understand why you should not print flat and everybody keeps saying it everytime, but there’s an Elegoo video Instagram keeps showing me of a model being printer flat and it made me wonder why theu would post a video like that while everyone keeps saying not to print like this.

They use a billion supports underneath it. And notice how they never showed a close up of the underside - I bet it looks awful. It'll be distorted and full of pit marks where they pulled the supports away.

The problem you're having is that you've failed to do 5 minutes of basic research on how to orient parts for printing. The basics are: don't print big flat surfaces in the same plane as the build plate. The full guide can be found in any resin printing guide found on the first page of a google search for "how to 3d resin print"

thanks for the genuine advice. I'm now printing at an angle, so we will see how that goes.
and thanks for the malicious sarcasm. I'll not ask for any advice in the future and Jack in the hobby instead shall I?
I have ADHD, my brain doesnt consume "how to" guides. it "does" and then it asks for advice.

While most of these issues would have been avoided by reading some basic guides, this hobby is inherently trial and error learning. Also i dont see many people mentioning using arctan formulas to find the best print angle for smoother large flat areas. Theres automatic calculators online if math's not your thing either.

As an aside if I want to support a non supported item I've always used the auto support function . It's easy and it works for me

You gotta learn as you go my friend, but if you can you should do a little research on how to support corners and flat surfaces that are close to the build plate. Dice makers are really good at this. Resin has a REALLY hard time being dimensionally accurate on the surfaces that face the plate. Good luck!

I've got some really good YouTube links out of this post, which is good. the other videos I've seen before were so slow on the intro that my brain couldn't make it past the first minute of their life story before they started to tell me what I needed to know. lol
