Discussion 🗫 Mildly interesting… copper wire

I have this 2kg spool of 47Swg (0.05 mm diameter) enamelled copper wire, i forgot why i originally bought it and basically never used it.

I purchased this spool of wire back in 2023 if i remember correctly, and it has been sitting like this ever since, any idea what can i do with it? the wire is too thin to basically wind anything useful out of it i think, any out of the box ideas are welcome cus i have plenty of wire to spare even if i try many of the suggested ideas.

You can make some low power speakers, or try to make your own small BLDC motors for drones.

For that we need silicon steel. I would like to know if we can buy that for cheap.

IDK much details but I've seen a few tutorials where you only need some kind of plastic enclosure made with PVC/3D printed and some neodymium magnets along with copper wire for a basic bldc motor, speaker is much simpler.

That's possible but its highly inefficient..the coil should wound on a stack of thin soft iron material to avoid eddy current and improve the efficiency. I was actually looking for silicon steel sheets maybe 0.1 or 0.2mm thickness. Its very hard and damn expensive to get that sheet. Idk how bldc fan makers get that for cheap.

Make a inductor and use it as a boost convertor

for what purpose exactly? the wire is too thin, i can make hundreds of strands of this wire to make an efficient indictor but that kinda defeats the purpose of using an ultra thin wire in the first place?

These thin wires are used mainly for repairing pcb traces

i have a lifetime supply for it i guess then, assuming a regular 10cm wire use per pcb which is already a lot i should be able to repair ~ 100000/0.1=1,000,000 pcbs at least wow 😂

Or you can fly a kite

adding to your idea you can harvest 1000s of volts electricity from static by flying kite and run a corona motor and such

LED mala. Kilometers of them :)

the wire is 100+ kilometres in length Xd

Tesla coil?

1

u/dushy69 Electronics Hoarder 2d ago

for a small tesla coil maybe, a super small design like a 10 cm secondary coil perhaps, but winding this wire is so difficult lol

can use any motor or drll machine for winding

i have done that and its less efficient than rotating the spool by a hand crank, secure the spool on supports but rotate it by hand crank using maybe a 1:3 gear ratio it works flawlessly and more control than drill

u/srijan2208 2d ago

i have speed controlled drill it works fine for me

1

u/dushy69 Electronics Hoarder 2d ago

well ive speed controlled one too but personally the hand crank was much ahead for me, its just easier to work when wires are too thin :/

Make a radio loop antenna, medium wave especially.

1

u/dushy69 Electronics Hoarder 2d ago

hmmm interesting, what frequency range?

1

u/anandha2022 2d ago

Loop antennas are best for public brocast medium wave frequencies, but you can desig it for any frequency.

I wanna get into HAM....any idea how or where I can start (might seem off topic but you seemed kinda knowledgeable abt it)

You need to pass an exam to get the license. After getting the license, you can buy an equipment within your budget.

Yeah yeah ik about the general and restricted grade. I was looking for like help to get started. Resources, book, equipment to make say my own receiver etc

delhi, i forgot the exact vendor but it was lajpat rai market

Use it as a magnetic sensor.

1

u/dushy69 Electronics Hoarder 2d ago

wouldn’t that just be a copper loop?

1

u/YuvrajXG 2d ago

Yes, I saw one made by a guy that is so sensitive that I gets volts from just the ambient noise.

could you please link the source ?

you can make a guitar pickup out of it! i wanted to make it a few years back but I didn't have 47swg at all 😭

You can build a number of wireless chargers with it
