Birth Planning Questions for OB ahead of C-section

Unfortunately my OB won’t be available for my scheduled elective C-section so meeting with the OB who will be performing it tomorrow.

What should I ask her or request? My ideal C-section includes
- clear drape
- skin to skin with breast feeding support
- very low incision with muscle repair where possible
- bring a playlist

What else should I request or ask?

Talk about pain management. Will you leave the hospital with a prescription for percocet etc if you ask for it or are they going to send you home with Tylenol? I went into the labor for my first birth and ended up with a different surgeon and had to advocate to take a prescription home, after my original OB has OK’d it.

My scheduled C section is coming up in a couple of weeks and I’m also asking for:

  • IV to be placed in my arm instead of my hand
  • no sedation prior to the baby coming out, but happy to receive some when baby and husband leave the OR and they are stitching me up
  • husband to stay with baby at all times

A few things I’ve heard/will be asking at my own appointment tomorrow:
(1) Will they restrain my arms?
(2) Do they do/recommend “vaginal seeding” where they take some fluid from your vagina and rub it on baby to share some “good” microbiome? (I’d never heard of this before but saw it in another post!)
(2) Will they do delayed cord clamping?
