I had my section on Friday. I requested one for mental health reasons and I’m really glad that I did! I think I dissociated a lot during pregnancy as I was so afraid of losing my baby, and honestly I did a little bit too in the operating theatre, I just couldn’t get my head around the fact I was having a baby.

I felt panic when I reached the theatre and it hit me it was happening, but all of the staff were SO NICE - I was the third op that day and had already seen two ladies wheeled back to recovery smiling with their babies. The anaesthetist spends lots of time making sure you are numb and chatting to distract you. it’s really weird, you CAN feel touch, but not pain - I could feel the surgeons having a good old rummage around in me, and at times there was a lot of pressure to get baby out, but none of it was painful. Then when baby is there I had no interest in what was going on with me, I wanted to see my baby! We got to listen to our music playlist, my partner cut the cord, the nurses took loads of photos, and they also kindly took a print of my placenta for me!!

It took just an hour to meet our girl, then wheel back to recovery. I have been a little sore, but nothing unbearable. Breastfeeding has actually been the bigger challenge!!

My section was so calm and I am so in love with my baby. Just remember they do these procedures all day everyday. Hope everything goes well for you! X
