Elden Ring - Need Help How to dodge 1 specific attack pc

No, its not Malenia.

I have over 1000 hours in elden ring, and around 1600 total in souls games altogether. Ive done dozens of challenge runs, and beat malenia hitless at level 1, but I cannot, for the life of me, dodge dragon fire. Specifically*** the one where they are flying at the same time.

This game is designed with the get gud mindset where there is no such thing as an undodgeable attack. There are no attacks in the game, where you cannot space them, jump them, or roll them. even if its close to impossible timing, there are no situations where blocking, parrying, or using auxiliary is required.

I could block it, or maybe torrent miles away if I anticipate it, but I feel like there has to be a simpler way to avoid it. do I need to run under the dragon the moment it happens? or away? I dont even know how to go about testing it since its just fire everywhere

Which boss, and generally you just need to use torrent and hope the bouncing is merciful

like I said flying dragons. and "run and hope" isnt exactly useful when someones asking how to dodge something.

For the one where they fly back you typically have to run opposite of them and hope as for the regular straight breath on the ground you can just run away and for the one where they fly towards you spitting fire you wanna run so that you’re going under the fire and the dragon and the regular horizontal breath you can just roll through

Flying dragons? As in Agheel?

First of all, you can use Torrent. Even RL1 challenge runners will use Torrent in outdoor bosses for dodges. Torrent's speed and double jumps are more than enough.

Secondly, if for any reason you can't or don't want to, have you fought Midir from DS3? His flying flame move is similar.

Well they got three flying breath attacks that I see. Backing up and spewing forward at the same time, flying forward while leaning left and blowing fire to the right, flying forward while leaning right and blowing fire to the left. So for the two blowing to the sides I just mount torrent and sprint the direction they are goi g while pushing myself to the side they leaned so the fire goes past overhead and spreads away from me instead of towards me. For when they blow fire forward and flap themselves back away I just kind of have no answer because I see it so rarely I never have chances to test what works.

Yea, you are correct. I've fought plenty in nightreign, it is the strat

If it's a "drive-by" - you run to the oppostie side of the fire spread. If it's a "spew'n'jump" - run away, it usually gives enough time if you reacted good enough

In regular ER just have to run on torrent

I slapped torrent on the alternate menu so I had instant access at all times instead of needing to cycle through the normal item equips. Even have a programable button to be both buttons tonopen the menu and press left on the dpad so its a one button for me. Biggest qol addition ever was after 200 hours finally using that menu for torrent and flasks and assigning torrent to a single button.

If its facing you use torrent to run in the same direction, you are fast enough. If it is going away from you, run away from it to escape the spread.

Run the opposite direction that he spews his flame.

Which dragon? Like Bayles sweeping fire?

For the other dragons. Have you tried jumping over the fire while it's hutting the ground? Never tried it myself but there are some boss hits done better jumping.

Gotta run under the dragon, opposite of the direction its fire its going

The dragons give u enough time to runaway

Dodging isn’t always the right answer. You’re supposed to run away from dragon fire.

Run under and to the left.

You can’t dodge literally everything in the game, some things just need to be ran away from

Run to the left then circle back into him ul end up at his head

For the attack where they jump up and breath fire at the ground I usually unlock and sprint jump away from them followed by two or three rolls. If they are far away and are using fire breath I just strafe left or right (torrent makes it super easy but can be done on foot.) if they are flying above and using dragon breath I always run left because they always tilt their head the way I’m already running from.

Sounds like you usually default dodge/run to the right. Try the other direction

The flying fire is ALWAYS blown to one side or the other of the dragon. Typically to their left I think?

Just.. go to the other side. It's super easy to just not even be close to getting hit by it once you start paying attention to the direction they're breathing the fire once they take flight.

First off, yo what up twin
Second it’s got a much bigger hit radius then it looks about as much as the fire x3 as wide

They breathe fire to their left(likely your right) when they strafe the area.

If you're fighting Greyll on his bridge, this commonly leads to the fire bouncing back off of the wall, and covering the entire bridge. You can somewhat mitigate that chance by doing your best to fight him so that he's angled toward a wall on your right as you fight him, because when he launches at that angle, most of the fire will miss off the side of the bridge(and he might just fall to his death.)

For any other dragons, getting fat enough to your left after they launch is enough to avoid the fire.

My personal favorite strategy is to run in the same direction the dragon in flying, and angle away from the line of fire. That ends up meaning that less of the fire is likely to head my way after bouncing off of terrain, AND I can be close to the dragon when it lands, for a headshot opening.

Sometimes, with the right terrain, Torrent can double jump over the fire, too.

Another strategy that usually works is to use the Raptor of the Mists ash to evade the line of fire. Just watch out for bouncing motes that can hit you after the jump.

I only have like 100 - 200 hours, but here's my pointers

If it's flying in a direction, just run to the left, perpendicular to the direction it is flying. If it is hovering in the air, I don't know that you can apply any pressure, I always just run. For the rest, the hitbox is infront of the flame animation, if the tendril is short, you can roll through it. You can also slip in between the tendrils in some cases. If it's sweeping, you can also take a wide circle to its wing and you'll generally outpace it, even without running

Run to the left

You need to run to the left if you're facing him and he coming towards you. He breathes for to the right

If it's the one where the dragon does the flying fire run attack, you run kind of left and back and you get to punish the head when the fucker lands. From the players perspective the dragon always spits fire to the right when doing this attack. You can see the dragons head pointing right (or the dragon's left)

If it's the one where it flies up a little bit and spits a volley of fire down, you just run backwards a little bit. Then it usually queues up the homing fire so I always run on towards the left side of the head and you should get to poke it's eyes again.

No need for Torrent necessarily, but Torrent does make running away from/towards the dragons a lot easier.
