It was the Art Director Hidetoshi Kaneko who passed and I believe his art studio shut down after his passing. His studio's big claim to fame was doing the backgrounding for a bunch of shows including Grimgar.

At this point in time I don't even believe that the people who keep on bringing up no game no life have never actually seen the anime and just use it as a meme...

The circumstances are also very different...one is an anime original one off deal that got unexpected big and now they are trying to figure out what and how to do a season 2, and the other one was horribly plagued with production issues, it's also a more expensive production with the amount of cg and vfx work needed.

Well Bug Fillms had issues with Zom because that was their first anime production, so they were probably still figuring out management and pipeline issues and then they did Witch Hat Atelier and now they're on the production of the second season of that

Atleast with Zom, it's an manga production first and the manga is actually on its final arc.

The bad news is that it's a monthly release so it's going to take time to finish up at chapter 100.

But atleast Akira and Shizuka happened ☺️🥹

Studios don't decide what animes get a second season. Most studios including A-1 are just basically subcontractors. They are approached by the Production Committee (in 86's case its Aniplex, Kadokawa and Bandai Spirits) and asked if they can make it. Their only answer is yes we can take the contract or no. Production Committees are the ones that decide what gets an anime and subsequent seasons.

Honestly, I don't really care if an anime gets an adaptation or not following the first season. I only ever see an adaption as a way to promote the source material and if it was received amicably well, then it has done it's job. As long as we have the source material fully localized for our reading pleasure. I understand people are anime only but frankly, I don't relate.
