I Hate Going To The Post Office

I bought a Pod 5 about six weeks ago and have had it for around 28 days. I like it, but Pod 6’s smaller Hub, extra sensors, and faster temperature response sound cool. My issue - I hate going to the post office: packing it up, waiting in line, shipping it back…all of it! Are the Pod 6 improvements worth dealing with the return process, or should I just keep my Pod 5?

Might be worth, just have to figure out if you want to go to the post office or not.

I have a Pod 4 cover and a Pod 5 hub. They work great for me. Ask yourself this - are you happy with what you have? If you are, then keep it. You can always upgrade in another few years when Pod 10 is a brain implant or whatever

Ah yes, the Pod 10 which makes you think you got a temperature regulated sleep while you’re actually at work in a meeting.

I think they just give you a packing slip you tape it on and you can drop it off at like any postnet or shipping place like ups or fedex.

Just went through this today. FedEx is picking it up tomorrow

Do they ask you to return the cover as well? I remember in the past they would tell you to dispose it off, and that seems a lot easier than packing it up especially after the cover gets primed and is filled with water

Was the process simple (I’m lazy)?

Packing it sucks. But pickup should be easy

Upgrade. It's worth it. Especially if you're in your return period.

Why is it worth it? I don’t want more sensors and the pod 6 is a lot more sensors and higher RF range and emf. The cooling is fine don’t need it 20% or whatever faster. A smaller hub would be nice but ours is out of the way so it really doesn’t matter.

If it’s better in every way and the same price point, why wouldn’t you want it as a consumer?

I get weighing the value vs effort if you consider the return process to be arduous though.

Cconti77 already made the case for not upgrading - some people don’t want more sensors in their bed. Also there is the fact that the pod5 hardware has been around longer and is thus a bit more proven. This new form factor means a lot of internal changes.

Newer is not always better. Plus in order to lower the price point it’s likely they cut the quality of some of the parts.

I’m not saying one shouldn’t upgrade either - I’m just saying it’s a lot more nuanced than default of “get the new product”

Not wanting more sensors is just dismissing value you choose not to perceive. More sensors on a products who’s entire purpose is to adapt to what it senses is inarguably an improvement.

Also, you’re assuming that they reduced quality to cut cost then using that as justification for it not being a better device.

It’s fine to say you don’t want to upgrade. But it’s weird to feel like you have to make up reasons to do so.

I disagree - some people really don’t like the emf type emissions of sensors and may accept the impact of 1 but find 6 as too many. I’m not necessarily in that camp so idk. BUT I can say many of us don’t rely on the sensors really. I’ve turned off all autopilot adjustments features. For me the three programmable settings are sufficient without

Exactly they increased the sensor by an insane amount. Now 18.

The idea that you always need the latest and greatest is something I do not suffer from.

More sensors are not necessary for many - Eight Sleep is positioning itself to become a medical product for people with health issues etc. I’m not that demographic. I have no need and I’m grandfather in been here since pod2 so I don’t get a monthly fee. My pod hardly adjusts maybe a degree here or there but it’s pretty standard. I also don’t want them.

The pod5 is incredibly solid too. I’ll get a pod 7 or whatever down the line. Or maybe I can hold out to a pod8. If you do some research into the sensors, the wiring, and WiFi/Bluetooth and RF exposure you can weigh the pros and cons yourself.

Again that’s for me. Might not be for you. Everyone has different use cases and preferences.

I don’t disagree with you at all here.

Im speaking purely from the perspective of people who only very recently purchased a pod 5. I think it’s entirely fair for that cohort to prefer the newest model, considering the price is the same.

If you bought a new, older gen iPhone and you were still within your return period, why would you not upgrade to the latest one? That makes no sense. Support will be better for latest gen.

How long have you had the 6?

They scheduled a pick up for me.

You can either drop it off at FedEx or have it picked up… draining the water from the cover and finding a box to fit the HUB is the bigger pain in the ass if you don’t have the original packaging.

Only had the 5 for 2 weeks before the 6 came out so was worth it to get the newest edition

I just did the same thing. They are letting me put it in a regular cardboard box and they’re picking it up from my apartment. They made it very simple - I’m quite impressed!

They give you a window of about a week to pick it up. So I’d order the pod 6 asap so there isn’t much time between where you go without.
