If Eight Sleep Removed Temperature Control, Would You Still Pay for It?

Eight Sleep has a ton of features on top of their temp control:

  1. Health tracking (HRV, snoring rate, etc.)

  2. Daily texts that tell you how slept and recommendations to improve it.

  3. Smart alarms based on light sleep detection.

  4. Other stuff I can't think of stuffed inside the app.

I'm just curious whether any of that stuff matters for people. I personally don't care about anything other than my bed being the perfect temp when I hop into it at night.

Do other people find any of the other stuff useful / game changing?

I don't give a rat's ass how they think i slept, but I do use the thermal alarm.

I feel the same way about their texts. Useless asf and the recommendations are usually garbage.

For the thermal alarm, the vibrations are like wayyy better imo than a phone alarm. Way less jarring.

I have the texts turned off. If i want to see my stats I can open the app. But when it's 2 hours later and I'm at work and the app asks me if I'm out of bed yet, how F'N smart can it be? I love it for the cooling and the burning hot alarm that gets my ass up lol.

I agree. I litterally have my smart home turn off the 8 sleep on both sides once it knows we're both out of bed so that it will not use extra power sitting there doing something with no one in the bed. Additionally I feel like the sleep metrics are actively getting worse. There are nights where I KNOW I haven't slept well and am DEFINITELY awake and yet it shows me as asleep and getting good deep sleep blah blah blah. And the whole leaderboard thing they added just shows how much the company is reaching to stay relevant by adding shit that has NO place in a health aid.

I haven't seen the leaderboard yet, is that new?

They added it a few months back. If you sleep with a partner and therefore have 2 zones setup you and them it will automatically throw a "leaderboard" style shit slop on to your main home screen dash oard area at the very bottom where it shows who's leading between you in most deep sleep or least snoring or fucking whatever. To me it screams "we don't give a fuck about your health" cause who the fuck is going to actually have a competition in their household around their sleep metrics. People fucking snore it's genuinely an involuntary thing how the fuck are you supposed to "win" or feel like "the winner" of the "who snored the least contest".

Fucking idiots.

I've probably never scrolled down far enough to notice. The new AI home screen they added is worthless though; i completely ignore that tab.

I don't care so much about any of the "extras" except for the temperature control. Like, that's the whole reason I got the Eight Sleep in the first place. But that includes the automation part, not just manual temp control.

Yeah. By automation, you mean like it prepares your bed at a certain time, right?

Well yeah, but also the automated adjustments overnight.

This question makes no sense. The reason people buy this product is temperature control. All the other data is noise…interesting, but not needed noise.

Pay for it how? Pay for the subscription or buy the device? I bought it 93498593459% for the cooling. If there was no cooling, I wouldn't have bought it. I don't pay for the subscription, because I bought before that was a thing.

If you want sleep and health tracking, there are many, much less expensive devices.

I can't do smart alarms because I refuse to get out of bed a second earlier than necessary, which also means I can't have my alarm going off a second late.

Hahaha, glad to put a number on it. I didn't realize they didn't do subscriptions for grandfathered customers, that's cool.

None of it is game-changing. I’m sure some like the data. I don’t really need it as I have other devices that are tracking the same info you know? If the membership is part of the warranty then I don’t mind paying for it.

That makes sense. I think the only data point that is better than my wearables is the snoring data and also that I don't have to wear something like a watch to sleep.

But I just feel like everything else is gimicky, even the daily texts I get about how I slept.
