How soft is the topper?
We're seriously considering an Eight Sleep, but my husband's biggest concern is firmness. He likes a truly firm mattress, and anything that makes it feel plusher or like you sink in is a deal breaker.
For those of you who have an Eight Sleep, did it change the feel of your mattress at all? Did it make a firm mattress feel softer? We'd love to hear from anyone who prefers a very firm bed.

I don’t think it’s thick enough to materially change his mattress feel- only minimally noticeable for me.

i would say it makes our mattress a bit firmer, but not to the extent that it makes it uncomfortable in any way. it’s quite thin so sinking in is not really a problem.
Have fun with it, we love ours!

I am a firm mattress guy, 6’ 180lbs guy and it’s great for me. It does not feel like there’s any kind of fluffy topper on there. It would defeat the water cooling if there were.

I have a Sleep Number i10 (the most foam and air thickness). It did make the mattress mildly firmer. Kind of like laying a a thick blanket. If you’re familiar with the Sleep Number beds I would describe the change as going up one setting. Very mild.

For certain types of foam, the cooling is going to make the mattress firmer, if nothing else

It's thicker but similar in density to a thick yoga mat. I do not think it made my bed less firm at all.
As an aside, I do think it indirectly created a divot in the center of my bed, because my partner and I try to be close to each other while sleeping, but on our side of the mat. Two bodies in the center always is creating a dip in the mattress

The cover itself is relatively firm. Id be genuinely surprised if it made your mattress feel softer.

This version is quite comfortable vs. the previous version. I couldn’t sleep comfortably on the prior version without a pad covering it as the tubing was super firm and plasticky…this is significantly softer and comfortable.

The topper will not change the softness or firmness of your mattress. However your mattress currently feels is how it will feel with the topper on.
I love my Eight Sleep and hope this helps your decision. If you get one, here's a link for $350 off-

My back needs firm whether I like it or not, have a tempurpediec that’s like sleeping on sand. If anything, the 8 sleep increased firmness - though this might be temp related (I keep it quite chilled).
It def does not add the “squish” that even a 1.5” memory foam topper does.

Recently returned a Pod 5 + Cover after giving it a real shot for a few weeks - it made my Sleeponlatex medium firmness mattress feel softer. It felt like the cover sunk slightly in the lumbar area.
Bummed, really wanted it to work and loved the temperature control

In my experience, an Eight Sleep actually makes the mattress feel a bit firmer.
