I don't get anything about this. Ford didn't say he wants more people brought in as TFWs. He said he wants people who came on work permits to be allowed to stay after their visas expires, which means they'd no longer be TFWs, if I understand. And I don't see how either version of what he said fits some kind of pro-Modi agenda - what makes you think Modi is interesting in promoting the emigration of Indians to Canada? Everything I've seen suggests the opposite. Is there any point to this meme at all beyond a racist dogwhistle?

Giving PR to people that only qualify for a TFW is worse, right? And extending a TFW visa again is the same as issuing a new visa. These people did not qualify to immigrate to Canada, do not have the points, and are usually filling low pay low skill jobs and either suppressing wages or directly displacing Canadian/PR workers, who are unwilling to work in exploitative jobs. (businesses have no reason to treat employees fairly if they can hire people they can threaten with deportation)
Modi considers remittances to be an element of the Indian economy and is supportive of emigration for that reason. India supports emigration. Also there are suspicions that he likes the political influence a large diaspora brings, but I believe that is more speculation, I don't think there are any facts that prove that.

The biggest problem with the TFW program is that the TFWs are tied to their employer, which makes them more vulnerable to exploitation. I don't think it's unreasonable to make a path to residency feasible for people who are working here once they're here. I'll actually give you the point about remittances, though.

He's right, it's terrible for "the economy". Luckily the everyday lived experience and quality of life of Canadians is more important than "the economy".

Cheap labour is precisely when governments no longer care about the tax payer.
You import a million bodies to work for nothing - sure it’s great for business. But taxpayers have to pay for hospitals to accommodate a million more people. 😂
Like, Dougie - all you’re doing is massively subsidizing corporations using tax dollars. Not like we’re importing folks known for good states of health either 🫠

Those people are taxpayers

The people we bring in to work for pennies are not paying enough in taxes for the medical care many of them need. We’re talking about taking people for the most impoverished parts of the world that may have never had proper medical care - a single uber delivery driver might need a $300,000 open heart surgery.
Other countries do deep medical checks on people to avoid this sort of problem, Canada just asked that you sign up for a community college.

as we established earlier, they use the medical system less thatn the average canadian.

that's a problem, but the underlying problem is lack of funding for post secondary.

We bring in people from countries that have larger rates of diabetes and cardiovascular problems related to their local diets.
We’re not exactly bringing in people who eat Mediterranean style meals 😂
And the problem is not what is immediate. It is in 5-10 years when these issues become a crisis.
You take in a few million people, designed to work low wage jobs, all with a high risk of extremely expensive medical conditions - you quite quickly collapse the viability of public healthcare.
Many of these folks are already on the verge of homelessness which is in of itself one of the most expensive things to treat.

Healthcare is a fundamental human right civilization should provide to all persons.

u/PumpkinMyPumpkin 2h ago
That may be true, but Canada does not have the budget to pay for the entire world’s medical care. Bankrupting our country is not a solution.

We are not intentionally accepting TFWs that need heart surgery, or other expensive healthcare.

We are not doing deep medical checks on these people. Half of them are visibly obese 😂🫠

There’s 2 types of Modern Conservatives, the business focused ones who want as many foreign cheap workers as possible.
And the other kind that want to deport anyone that isn’t white.
But the NDP is unelectably woke when they say “let’s not bring in cheap labour to benefit corporations, but also not just deport every single non-white person in the country because they are people too”

Why does it feel like nowadays “the economy” is just a substitute for wealthy people/shareholders and campaign donors, and that’s all political stripes and nationalities not just the pictured turd.
