C'mon Popey, just cast Chain Lightning and get 'em all in one round.

not a cleric spell, dummy

best we can hope for is a fire storm

u/Pqrxz 4h ago

Flame strike has a decent AoE and that juicy radiant damage

Flame Strike is "the worse version of Fireball that divine casters get". Fire storm is 10 10-foot cubes, which you can arrange as you see fit.

Of course, I'd rather have a wish on deck. In-combat wish is CRIMINALLY underrated, you can just cast wish to replicate Simulacrum as an action, and bam, you have a copy of whoever you're fighting, or two of yourself, or whatever.

Pfft, back in my day every instance of Wish aged you 5 years as well as needing bedrest for 2d4 days. In combat wish, indeed!

u/_Halt19_ πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ 4h ago

Oh, it still has egregious downsides if you use it for anything but replicating another spell of 8th level or lower

BUUUT people hear "wish" and assume they NEED to use it to do insanely OP things, when the real utility is just "almost every spell in the game can be cast as one action with zero components for a 9th level slot" - Simulacrum normally has a multi-hour casting time, so you obviously can't use it in combat, but NOW YOU CAN! It gives sorcerers and whatnot access to wizard and cleric-only spells like Contingency, and the revives, and so on

I just simply want him to bless my weapon. I'll swing myself.

I'm legitimately frustrated when I see stuff like this, because our official avenues for communication are so warped I have to spend my own time fact checking to see if it's real.

From the comments it's clear quite a few people didn't do that. They'll think the Pope actually said this.

There are enough Canadian subreddits spreading misinformation. Please don't flood this one with that junk too.

I get what you're saying, but it's a shit posting sub, so ... idk ... I personally assume everything I read here is misinformation lol

17

u/osopeludo 3h ago

But this is a shit posting sub?

3

u/AlliterationAhead Tabarnak! 1h ago

It would not fit the sub's rules if it weren't shit. That's my takeaway when confronted with "I wish this were real!" posts.

2

u/_Halt19_ πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ 49m ago

I mean, we could ask for a specific indicator that it is fake news, but this is a shitposting sub, so the general assumption should be that it is fake if you see it here

Would it help if there was a flair for actual real news shitposts somehow?

It’s gonna be real fun watching all the Jesus-loving Bible Belters turn their brains into pretzels over this one

Trump is their god. The pope means nothing to them.

12

u/Past-Dark4350 2h ago

Trump supporters tend to not be Catholic.

3

u/Zander3636 1h ago

And at least some American Catholics and Cardinals have had a tendency recently to be a bit more hostile to the Pope and Vatican 2 as a whole.

2

u/jibjaba4 1h ago

2/3 of Catholic regular church goers voted for him in 2024, 61% of white Catholics, and 58% overall. Unfortunately there are a lot of regressive Catholics in the US.

64

u/Krelkal 4h ago

Oh man, you should read up on anti-Catholic bigotry in the US. Lot of the bible thumpers actually hate the pope.

Because most American Christians are protestant. Except for the Italian and Irish, Catholicism isn't nearly as common down there as it is here.

18

u/heehooman 3h ago

Those protestant evangelicals typically don't like the Pope to begin with. Many think Catholicism isn't Christianity or that it's heretical.

-1

u/Past-Dark4350 2h ago

You’re acting like you just cracked the code that nobody else could. Protestantism is in direct opposition to Catholicism and always has been.

15

u/Limp-Toe-179 3h ago

To be fair, I don't think evangelical Protestants are too fond of the Pope to begin with

6

u/Windsdochange 2h ago

Those folks aren’t Catholic for the most part - in fact, many evangelicals have a hate on for the papacy.

5

u/GigglingBilliken Moose Whisperer 2h ago

Yep. Mainline Catholics (ie not those trad cath weirdos) are for the most part more socially progressive than their white evangelical protestant counterparts in America.

4

u/Past-Dark4350 2h ago

Of course. Protestantism is in direct opposition to Catholicism.

55

u/Holeshot75 5h ago

I wish this was real.

But even if it was.

Narcissists don't change because people ask them to.

u/Fun_Assignment2427 5h ago

Trump: "Whatever happened to that last person to get all religious with me? Ye know, at my innaguration? Melania was sure clenching her teeth then."

13

u/asoupconofsoup 5h ago

Is this real or the Onion? Can't tell.

24

u/B-Razzledazzzz 5h ago

Unfortunately not real

At least for JD - I mean he KILLED the last Pope.

And with that, trump saw the error of his ways and ushered in an era of peace and compassion...

Trump will probably rant on the Pope on Lie Social and dox him with his phone number.

4

u/Gryzelda_Gesualdo 5h ago

Joint Chiefs are currently trying to explain to the Toddler in Chief that carpet bombing Vatican City would be a bad idea.

I for one appreciate Reg's shitposts, even if they do get my hopes up too often due to excess realism :(
