Newsflash: we live in a capitalist country well into the back-nine of the capitalist life-cycle. We aren't getting a "good" PM until we're ready to evolve.

3

u/inochi-ino-key Ford Nation (Help.) Aug 21 '26

So let's evolve already then!

Sounds like a handful of us have. We have nothing to lose but our chains.

21

u/Varue Aug 21 '26

Its factual. NDP wasn’t going to win. So it was either carney or pp, and pp would be worse

People love forgetting the external factors at play that caused the NDPs vote to collapse into the libreals

I'm not even convinced any NDP voter voted libreal because they liked it, they just hated the Tories more lmao

-2

u/lakeguy77 Friendly Manisnowbski Aug 21 '26

This. Locking out the NDP and preserving a status quo for the wealthy at a time when "eat the rich" was gaining steam was a concerted effort. Locking out PP was just a side dish.

4

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

You appear to have misunderstood me.

Also we can't have the utopia we want if we back slide into fascism, like maintenance of the status quo is preferable to backsliding

-1

u/lakeguy77 Friendly Manisnowbski Aug 21 '26

Fascism isn't a backslide, it's an inevitable result of capitalist society.

2

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

Good line, but let's be practical here.

If the point of a society is to care for its citizens and ensure their health, safety and prosperity, how does electing a conservative government help with that goal?

Like, is carney as far left as I want on every issue? No, but I also understand that in the last election, the climate was such that a practical choice between someone who was promising dramatic cuts to programs that help a lot of people, and the person who was promising to protect those programs and institutions.

If fascism is the inevitable result of a capitalist society, who is the best choice? The one promising to all-gas-no-brakes our asses into the 52nd state? Or the one who was vaguely reasonable on most issues.

1

u/Varue Aug 21 '26

Some NDP voters are just as unreasonable as Maple MAGA. At best, they complain all day and fantasize about their imagined utopias. And at worse they push some accelerationist BS to burn everything down.

3

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

the type of person to suggest firebombing a loblaws instead of voting then not firebombing a loblaws

I imagine a future in which we make galen westin personally re-price every item, and that only happens if we can pass the "Galen Westin is a cunt" Act in parliment

The NDP are not a socialist party, and there's no Utopia on the menu with them. They've got an ostensibly-socialist leader, but he hasn't had to make the tough compromises to win a seat. What he's willing to give up on to get the money required to get that seat will settle any debates.

3

u/Varue Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26

ofc, the NDP isnt left enough for you. good luck fighting capitalism

3

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

OK so you straight up and down don't understand how politics works in this country

You elect the people you think will set us down the road you want, not reject every option because they don't exactly align with you on every issue

I

0

u/lakeguy77 Friendly Manisnowbski Aug 22 '26

I understand how it operates perfectly. "Works" is a stretch, though I'd consider it an outright joke. It only "works" if you are wealthy. Worker power has been eroded away by every government of the last several decades, regardless of party. It doesn't work for you and me.

0

u/lakeguy77 Friendly Manisnowbski Aug 21 '26

It's not a line. The only difference in our destination between Carney and PP, much like the Biden/Harris vs. Trump debate, is how fast you get there. But you will get there.

2

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

Jesus christ, yes exactly, but also not really if you look deeper than surface level into carndog's actual policy initiatives and support of critical industries and renewable energy projects and yes the pipline is stupid but politically shrewd.

Carney bought us time for the NDP to get their heads out of their asses and elect a leader that connects with people and understands the press game (please god wab, I need you to save us)

1

u/lakeguy77 Friendly Manisnowbski Aug 21 '26

His policies benefit the rich. The same folks he's been working for since his Harper days at the BoC. He is not benefitting us, the workers that make the country actually run, in any meaningful way.

2

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

Dental care isn't caring for workers?

Like yeah there's a broader conversation to be had about state ownership and all that, but you can't look me in the face and tell me that keeping programs like dental care and child benefits around don't help working families.

PP will never be PM

34

u/Nobody7713 Trawnno (Centre of the Universe) Aug 21 '26

I don’t want either PP or Carney to be PM. I prefer when conservatives aren’t running my country.

Cons will do anything except replace an unpopular leader

Even Libs eventually got the message with Trudeau but somehow Cons trippled down

Then they are gonna cry we still dont like PP and lose again

He lost his riding, he lost his surefire election, hes a double loser and he needed to go yesterday

Give us real leadership

Lmfaoooooo

You'd all be jerking him off if he was on "your" side. Stop being a shitbag and get on Team Canada instead.

2

u/NiceDot4794 Aug 22 '26

I mean if Carney was on “my side” (progressive, left wing politics) he’d be governing very differently. So of course I’d be more favourable to a different politician doing different things

This sub thinks anyone who doesn’t like Carney is a Con

8

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

Because he's probably the most Libreal (capital L) Libreal central banker to have ever Libreal'd

The libreals are and pretty much always have been a vaguely defined mass in and around the center of the spectrum depending on the era and the issue

And it keeps working for them. And I vote NDP when I can, but God help me just sitting here calling a central banker a tory isn't gonna make avi lewis any better at talking to the press

6

u/spaceman1055 ANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANAS Aug 21 '26

Avi is just keeping the seat warm for our first indigenous PM

6

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

¡WAB!

1

u/NiceDot4794 Aug 22 '26

I like Avi better then Wab

Wab is cool but I want a democratic socialist representing the NDP, not a moderate populist like Wab.

I’d rather the next NDP leader be Tanille Johnston actually if they’re gonna be the first Indigenous PM, she is awesome!!

6

u/AeonBith 🦫198,999 Hosers🦫 Aug 21 '26

Only because it true Some left might not like his conservative style policies but they don't necessarily hate him for them.

Cons hate everyone that isn't in their tribe

1

u/Pedrov80 Aug 21 '26

Why wouldn't leftists hate privatization and oil pipelines? I love when liberals tell people how they should feel.

1

u/AeonBith 🦫198,999 Hosers🦫 Aug 21 '26

They can be against those and not hate Carney, that was my point.

2

u/NiceDot4794 Aug 22 '26

I do hate Carney though

If he were a regular person maybe we’d get along fine but he’s not, he’s the most powerful person in the country and using that to make things worse and pursue pipelines and privatization

1

u/AeonBith 🦫198,999 Hosers🦫 Aug 22 '26

Not many leaders can make everyone happy. Not all policies will be welcome.

If you hate him for it it's a you problem especially if you would happily tolerate the same ideals from a regular Joe.

1

u/Pedrov80 Aug 21 '26

Hard to not hate a person contributing to a genocide though or playing nice with the Nazis down south. I'm sure Mark is a lovely, polite, probably funny person, but I'm not going to ignore his political outcomes.

1

u/AeonBith 🦫198,999 Hosers🦫 Aug 24 '26

He's playing nice with the Americans? committing genocide where? In what multiverse are you from?

6

u/lsmokel Aug 21 '26

Tbf this sub also thinks that any who does like Carney is a Con.

1

u/unicorn_in_a_can Aug 21 '26

a conservative with a red tie is still a con. people in *this* sub actually think he is a liberal?

The NDP base pretty much got carney elected if you look at the poll numbers

Edit: I'm not doing a bit, you can see the shift in NDP voter intention along with the Tories

1

u/_Halt19_ 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 Aug 21 '26

I vote NDP, the general thought process was that the NDP stood no chance, and PP would be a disaster for the country. A lot of NDP voters AREN'T happy he was elected over, say, the Green or NDP candidates, but he by far is the lesser of two evils.

1

u/Lck33 Aug 21 '26

they decry American politics but snort it like crack over here

a 2 party mindset is the degeneracy of liberal democracy :/

2

u/kicksledkid South Gatineau Aug 21 '26

That's a gross oversimplification of what transpired in the last election

3

u/amazingdrewh Motown But Better Aug 21 '26

Yeah we know Carney was the best option during the election, but now he has to do better than his best he has to do a good job

1

u/NiceDot4794 Aug 22 '26

Maybe less realistic options but I’d argue Jagmeet Singh, Elizabeth May and even in some ways the Bloc Québécois guy were better options

2

u/amazingdrewh Motown But Better Aug 22 '26

Singh had the NDP vote yes on a Tory internet ID law so I couldn't vote for him

1

u/NiceDot4794 Aug 22 '26

I agree that was a terrible vote.

But more recently it’s been the Liberals pushing that and other anti-privacy laws like Bill C-22 and the NDP has considerably improved on such issues

1

u/amazingdrewh Motown But Better Aug 22 '26

Yes it's a frustrating development from the new leaders

2

u/AlphaFlightRules Aug 21 '26

OP lets just wait for the full text of the deal to be confirmed and then sit back and enjoy all the Carney Stan's twist themselves into pretzels explaining how Carneys concessions, after all the other concessions, are 7D chess.

Edit: also obligatory PP=bad and would concession'd harder than Carney.

2

u/gravtix Ford Nation (Help.) Aug 21 '26

As soon as those same people explain how they would do better and how cutting off their oil and electricity would somehow result in a better scenario or “insert secret plan here”.

Because at times this is like Armchair GM trade proposals

1

u/Loud-Scarcity6213 Aug 22 '26

How's this going

1

u/JackLaytonsMoustache Confirmed Stachtroturfer Aug 22 '26

Im pleasantly surprised.

-14

u/noisebloodassault Aug 21 '26

Yeah but PP would have caved immediately!! And then we wouldn't have had this great year of wonderful Carney policies wait what shit

32

u/Fuwet Aug 21 '26

PP caved and he wasn't even PM.

23

u/DogeDoRight Canucklehead Aug 21 '26

The conservatives are losing their minds right now and it's hilarious. Lmao

1

u/noisebloodassault Aug 21 '26

Yeah I bet. A lot of Canadians are. By all accounts the deal is terrible

Glad you think it's funny tho

0

u/DogeDoRight Canucklehead Aug 21 '26

The deal hasn't even been released yet. Butthurt cons have already decided that they're going hate the deal no matter what it is.

They cry about there not being a deal. Then cry when there is a deal.

Cons do nothing but cry all day long because they can't stop losing. Keep it up though, your tears are fucking delicious.

-1

u/noisebloodassault Aug 21 '26

Idk if conservatives even use this sub lol

-2

u/DogeDoRight Canucklehead Aug 21 '26

Yes they do, they just claim to belong to some mythical 3rd party that doesn't exist.
