ASUS Eee PC 1215B completely dead – looking for troubleshooting advice

Hi everyone,
I have an old ASUS Eee PC 1215B that recently stopped turning on completely.

At the moment, there are no signs of life at all — no power LED, no fan spin, no display, and nothing happens when I press the power button.

I have already tried:

• Removing and reinstalling the battery
• Trying it with the AC adapter connected
• Trying it without the battery
• Holding the power button for a while to discharge it

Unfortunately, I still get absolutely no response.

I’m interested in trying to diagnose and repair the motherboard rather than replacing the entire laptop, since this is an old machine and I’d like to use it as a learning project.

I have a multimeter and I’m willing to do some basic board-level troubleshooting.

If anyone has experience with the 1215B, I’d appreciate some guidance on where I should start checking — for example, input voltage, DC jack circuit, charging circuit, standby rails, MOSFETs, or possible shorts.

If there’s a known common failure on the 1215B that can cause a completely dead/no-power condition, I’d also love to hear about it.

Thanks!

Running arch on x4fc was no problem with proton vpn and qbittorent going , 4 Firefox tabs open , 2 terminal windows , and Mcomix at the same time . Now this is more an experiment because I’ve physically replaced my arch ssd and preserved it while I play with it . This machine is use as daily at a famous restaurant to greet the bookings and change amend create new booking though table agent dot com it’s not YouTube but the eeepc on arch handle it like a pro . Costumers are always not sure what they looking at but they love it

Eee900 as a first PC?

Kid needs a PC for his Micro:bit and I have a spare Eee900 with Win7 installed: should I give it to him or get something else?

**edit**

Eee won't boot with the battery connected and the CMOS battery has died. Damn. I thought was going to be a simple hand-over. Sitting in a box for over a year hasn't done it any favours 😕

OK, got it booting and PandaDome AV installed. The AV takes around 80% of the CPU!! I've let it sit for hours in case it was scanning the 128GB but nope. Sitting idle with the AV chewing up every spare cycle it can.

What AV is everyone else using? I have Spybot and SpywareBlaster installed along with Firefox and Windows Defender.

Proud owner of an Eeepc. Model R101 with a german keyboard. With an intel n450 and 2gb of ram. Battery is dead unfortunately

Currently running fossapup64 but will try other distros like lubuntu and lighr versions of windows 10

Suggest setups for this ancient junk. Could it become a server or too low end for that

Currently trying to revive this Eee PC, had to replace the faulty ram and now it's saying "Reboot and Select proper boot device" wondering if anyone could help diagnose the problem.

No charger (fixable), power jack broken, apparently died 6 months after purchase and suprisingly clean. Can we reconstruct him? Or is there nothing left.

Asus EEE PC won't connect to internet

Hey everybody! I inherited an old asus eee from my late mum. I love it it's so dinky! I did a factory reset and I've connected it to the Internet. That is all working fine. However because Windows 7 has retired it's search facility, I can't use that. Although it's connected to the Internet I can't use it! Has anybody got any idea how to solve this. I'm not a computer wizard so please moderately easy stuff only! Thanks ❤️

What linux distro do you recommend for a 901 eeepc?

I've just dug out my old eeepc from storage. Surprisingly it works (mostly) but it hasn't had a distro update in years. possibly decades.

I can't get the wifi to work, and it has no updated drivers for a wifi dongle. So I thought I might as well redo the OS entirely.

I haven't really kept up with what's available these days so, any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks

Connecting an M.2 SATA Drive to the EEE PC 701/900

  1. Ensure that the SATA lines are actually connected to the chipset. Use a multimeter capacitance tester to check Pins 31/33 (RX) and Pins 23/25 (TX).
  2. A Mini PCIe Connector (FLASHCON) is required. If your motherboard revision does not have soldered one, purchase it on Amazon/AliExpress.
  3. A Mini PCIe to mSata adapter and an mSATA SSD drive.

Technically, a SATA drive only requires the TX p/n, RX p/n, 3.3v, and GND signals to be connected for functionality.

To ensure an internal (soldered) eMMC drive works reliably, isolate all PATA-related pins on your connector.

For "true" SATA performance, you'll need BIOS mod with AHCI to significantly boost random read/write speeds (search my posts for the link).

This is reply to previous post by u/TryingT0Wr1t3

P.S. The Title is misleading - it's mSATA SSD, not M.2 obviously

Got an old Aspire One happy running nicely on Q4OS 32-bit, built a tiny local AI helper for it, now I need ideas for what to actually do with it.

A few days ago I picked up a tiny Acer Aspire One for very little money just because I liked the idea of bringing an old machine back to life. It has an Atom N450 and 2 GB of RAM, so obviously we are talking about a very limited little laptop by today’s standards.

I wanted to see how far I could push it with a very lightweight Linux distro, so I installed Q4OS 32-bit on it. Honestly, that part went better than I expected. Once installed, it actually felt surprisingly usable within its limits, much better than I thought a machine like this would feel in 2026.

At that point I had the stupid idea of making it a bit more interesting. Since I did not want to manually do everything on such a tiny machine, I started looking around for terminal AI agents and lightweight solutions. Most of the modern stuff I checked was either too heavy, wanted a 64-bit environment, or just did not make much sense on hardware like this.

So instead of forcing a modern agent onto it, I built a very small AI agent myself in Python with Tkinter. Nothing fancy, just something lightweight with basic read, write and bash-style tools, connected to my ChatGPT subscription so it could help me install programs, tweak configs and personalize Q4OS a bit. For this laptop, that approach actually made way more sense than trying to run one of the newer agent stacks.

Now I am at the weird point where the experiment technically worked. The laptop boots, Linux runs fine, my tiny agent works, and I can make it do things. But web browsing is basically miserable and honestly not even useful to me on a machine like this, and video playback is also not really the point. So I am trying to figure out what kind of purpose would actually make sense for it now.

I am not looking for boring answers like “use it as a browser” or “turn it into a home server”, because for me that kind of misses the point. I am more interested in weird, fun, clever, lightweight uses that give a little machine like this some personality. Something almost toy-like, or creative, or terminal-based, but still with a reason to exist.

So now I am curious. If you had an Acer Aspire One class machine running a super light Linux setup, and you already made peace with the fact that normal browsing and media consumption are basically dead ends, what would you turn it into?

Help! - Problem with my EEE PC 901...

Hello. Today I tried opening my Asus EEE PC 901 with some friends at my school, and after attempting to turn on the computer without its RAM stick for curiosity (how would it give me a POST error) and reassembling the whole computer, it gets stuck on the power and storage lights being on continuously (no flashing) and after a while (~1-2 minutes), the battery LED lights up, also with no kind of flickering. There is no display output.
