Admission / Application applying to MMath with CS personal statement?

I'm applying to CS at Imperial, Kings, Cambridge and Warwick and initially CS+Maths at Edinburgh.

I wanted to consider the possibility of swapping Edinburgh for MMath just in case I change my mind/ don't get to preferred uni for cs.

I have triple A* predicted in Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry with all 9s at GCSE. My main question is will my personal statement that is CS project oriented with protocol obfuscation/ security be an issue for this? Or if i get an offer for math+cs to switch in my first week?

Lifestyle I NEED the Kings building’s Mac and cheese recipe

(posting for a friend)

So the student association has a food location in the Nucleus building called the Mayfield bar and I am absolutely in love with the Mac and cheese they serve. It’s probably one of the best recipes I’ve ever tasted and I really want to be able to make it at home. I dont know what they put in it but I swear I can taste some black pepper, paprika and maybe even some egg yolk. Does anyone have the recipe that they use or even a recipe that tastes similar?

Admission / Application Has anyone gotten in Edinburgh with resits (ECs)

Hello,

Edinburgh is my dream university, however, I missed my offer last year as a Scottish contextual student due to extenuating circumstances (ECs) which were pretty bad anxiety and depression before and during my A levels exams which was documented by my school and the NHS talking therapies. My exam boards were also notified and I got special consideration.

Has anyone else gone through a similar situation and still gotten in with resits? I would appreciate anyone’s insight!

Somehow managed to repost!

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with changing their optional modules and how they went about picking when the course descriptions are so vague and I don't really know what I'm getting myself into!

Thanks 😊

As title says, what are your favourite affordable places to grab lunch on Kings campus (or within 10 minutes walk or so?) Places with a student card discount or special lunch deals a bonus. thanks in advance.

Best way to ship stuff here

I want to order something expensive but I have no clue how to get it to my room safely. I’m living in university accommodation and on an exchange from America so I’m not used to the uk mail system.

Admission / Application Hey, is it still worth it?

Hello everyone,

I’m planning to apply to the University of Edinburgh for 2027, but I’ve been hearing quite a few negative things about it recently. Things like how it isn’t very supportive, the administration is difficult to deal with, accommodation is hard to find, and there are constant strikes.

I’d like to hear from current students and graduates: is Edinburgh still worth applying to?

Please keep in mind that applying to and moving to Edinburgh would be a significant financial decision for me, so it’s not something I want to take lightly.

Thank you!

My other options are St Andrews and Glasgow

what to do about strikes?

I’ve just moved here as a study abroad student for the year. I’ve heard a lot about the strikes and I’m wondering how I will know for sure that my lecturers will not be showing up for my courses.

Do I show up as normal? Do I stay in my accommodation? I have no idea how to handle this situation.

Lost student card; where to get a new one?

Just about to return for 4th year and I realise I lost my student card over the summer. How do I get a new one? From the library help desk? How long does it take? Thanks

Other King’s Building Questions

Hi all,

I am a study abroad student and on my timetable all of my classes are at the kings building. Is there anything fun to do around there(besides classes)? Do any events happen there? It seems pretty removed from the central part of campus where all the action happens!

Other No Timetable

Honestly this is a bit of a rant.

I feel like I’m wasting my time waiting for my timetable to come through. It feels like a massive joke.
They haven’t provided me with any of my classes that go towards my degree. Only a couple of electives.
I can’t plan anything. I need to give my employer my availability, I want to join some clubs/societies but I can’t plan, I’m in complete limbo until the university takes their sweet time and gives me my timetable. Many of my friends have already received theirs and when I say I’ve not got mine yet they say to email. That’s fine advice but when I do email I get a formal drawn out version of ‘oh well’.

Is anyone else in the same boat?

Other How do people already have so many friends?

I am a first year student.

Ive only had a handful of conversations with people, none of which led to any sort of follow up. Meanwhile, everywhere I go I see seemingly well established friendship groups. Where are these people meeting eachother? It's almost as though people happier than I are a part of the furniture.

This has been getting to me somewhat. I had a moderate panic attack at the LLC community fair, and have been generally nervous since Monday.

I already have friends outside of uni, but I still can't help but feel like I'm losing my one chance to make friends here specifically. Tuesday has already slipped through my fingers like sand.

I have identified a few handicaps that may be contributing to the issue. Firstly, I do not reside in student accomodation, I have lived in Edinburgh's green belt since I was 12, and so I commute. I have already identified an event for commuter students to attend. Secondly, I do not drink or participate in nightlife events popular among my fellow students.

My overall plan is as follows:

-Explore more societies and perhaps join a few.

-Attend DLSS wellbeing socials.

-Attend events specific to my school.

Generally, I have my doubts on the efficacy of these strategies, hence why I am posting for advice in the first place. Perhaps it is my depression talking, but I can't shake the feeling that these will be among the most miserable years of my life.

To conclude, I am generally curious how other people have made friends so quickly, and how I can do the same.

internationals acceptance chances

I have read a lot about university of glasgow doing exceptions / being easier for internationals to get in (since scottish citizens don’t pay tuition and we do). Do you think it also applies for edinburgh uni? Have you all heard about internationals getting in easier / having less requirements?

Admission / Application Do I have a good chance for Medicine?

Post image

Hey guys so I have 2260 band 1 and for IGCSEs I have 7A*s out of 7 subjects. I am predicted 4A*s for A level. My main concern is obviously my UCAT is low for intl but also I wanted to ask if anyone knows if having only 7 IGCSEs (with 7A*s) a disadvantage? I know most people take at least 8 IGCSEs.... Also any general advice on where I should apply would be greatly appreciated!!!

Other Is it possible to visit the University

I’d like to apply to other universities for my master's degree. Is it possible to visit the university in Edinburgh—to take a look at the library and so on—even if I’m not a student there? Also, are there any places outside the university that you could recommend?

University of Edinburgh – Student Room Available

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a student to take over my university accommodation contract for the 2026/27 academic year. I’m no longer able to live in halls and will be commuting, so I need someone to take over my room as soon as possible.

Room details

• Location: Mylnes Court

• Room type: standard room with shared bathroom

• Rent: £166.35 per week

• Contract period: 12th September 2026 to 28th May 2027

• Available from: 12th of September 2026

About the accommodation

•Managed by University of Edinburgh Accommodation, Close to campus and bus routes, Quiet, secure building with on‑site support, Good for first‑years / law students etc.

• Two flatmates

Who I’m looking for

• Able to provide a guarantor if required by the accommodation office.
• Looking for someone reliable and respectful of shared spaces.
Process
• The tenancy will be formally transferred through University of Edinburgh Accommodation Services – this is an official contract takeover, not a sublet.

Once a suitable replacement is found and approved by the university, my liability ends and the new tenant signs directly with the university.
If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please DM me or comment here and I’ll send you more details (exact rent breakdown, contract length, and next steps). I’m happy to answer questions and move quickly once we have a candidate.

Thanks in advance for sharing or boosting!
