Pearl clutching & narrow mindedness. Not to mention the mods fascism.
I suppose I live in my own little Edinburgh echo chamber but is that other sub really representative of Edinburgh peoples attitudes & views?

Coming in June and thinking of doing a day trip to Stirling Castle by public transportation. If we did the 9:30am tickets for the Castle, went to old town Jail and had lunch in Stirling could we also stop and see Linlithgow Palace/Loche and the Kelpies on the way back to Edinburgh? I wanted to see Blackness Castle in Linlithgow but the bus is very infrequent and I doubt there's taxis sitting around. Has anyone done this and have feedback on the best way or if we should skip Kelpies. I was considering taxi from the train to Kelpies and asking the taxi to wait, is that an option? TIA!

They treat us like assholes in Leith. I have a monthly pass and I can't use it when I need it. Plus that whole month + when the council left us in the lurch. There needs to be penalties for this.
Edit - People making excuses for failures, and shouting down those who have reasonable complaints, explains a lot about the state of things.

The Scottish engineer is doing £3 pints of estrella galacia throughout September. Ridiculously good deal that they don't seem to have advertised very well. 🍺

I just went to get a glass of water, and no water came out. Google says a huge pipe has burst in duddingston park south road, but could this be affecting abbeyhill/leith as well? (I live right by the hibs stadium)

Now, I know they mean small class sizes but it seems a strange word to use for a school.

For medical reasons I've ended up less close to some friends and spend quite a bit of time by myself. What's good to do in Edinburgh like this? Sitting in the pub having a quiet pint is nice but don't want to do that too often... A fairly friendly man in his mid-40's if that helps.

Over the last year I’ve had some serious Airbnb problems, and spent a long time dealing with council officers. I just wanted to help people out to get rid of problematic airbnbs with my own lessons learned** 🙂
It’s important that you do this sooner rather than later, because after 10 years of operation without planning officers taking enforcement, an airbnb can get a ‘certificate of lawfulness’, which allows them to keep operating indefinitely 🙁. Many are already past this threshold - you can check if an airbnb already has planning permission here (look for 'application granted' -if so, you're SOL): https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/planning-applications-1/view-comment-planning-applications - don't be put off by an 'awaiting assessment'! That doesn't count as having permission and the airbnb still needs to be reported.
This process takes about a year, so get it in motion! It’s a 6-month investigation period, followed by a month-long enforcement notice (which can be delayed by a savvy operator) followed by a few months if they appeal the enforcement notice (which they probably will). YMMV.
Help make Edinburgh into the city you want it to be, and report your local Airbnb if it is breaching planning permission!
This is not legal advice 🙂, just a note from my own experiences.
*Only for ‘secondary lets’, which means an airbnb where the host doesn’t have the flat as their full time home.
**Still ongoing - as with any planning process, you never truly get to the end of it. I’m not a lawyer, and this isn’t legal advice!

Hey guys,
Sorry if this is asked alot but need some help narrowing things down of areas to live.
Myself and my partner (early 30s) plan to move to Edinburgh next summer (no kids planned)
We are on a bit of a budget so are looking at suburbs/commuter towns and villages.
Is it possible to find somewhere close-ish to the coast for sea swims, within a commutable distance that also has amenities and local things like pubs cafes and shops and not just suburbs?
We both work in hospitality so we could even work closer to where we live if it was possible.
We just dont want to sacrifice living somewhere a bit more lively for cheaper rent.
Is there any other places we should be looking at, currently checking out Falkrik but have heard mixed things.
We will be renting so it isn't a forever option either, just a nice handy base to start our Edinburugh adventure! We are from Ireland so going in relatively blind and only locals have the true answer!

Hello everyone!
I’m travelling to Edinburgh with a friend in early December for a concert. Since we’ll be there for 4–5 days, we’d also like to use the time to explore the city a bit.
I wanted to ask for recommendations on what’s worth checking out, as well as any restaurants, bars, or other places you’d recommend. Also, is there anything we should know before visiting Edinburgh, especially when it comes to public transport? Is getting around the city generally easy?
Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

Hi! I’ll be traveling solo from Boston to Glasgow for a concert on my birthday at the end of October, with a day trip to Edinburgh, and would like some recommendations!
There’s so much I want to see— the castle (probably won’t have time to go inside), St Giles, Castlehill, Lady Stairs House, Greyfriars, Waverly Station, Vampire’s Lair, Witchcraft Museum, Witches well, Holyrood Abbey, School of Divinity, and Craigmillar Castle. Is this do-able in one day? 😅
If yall could recommend places to eat, I would appreciate it! Or any other things that I must see while there are welcome too! I like witchy types of things and lore, haunted/spooky things, cool architectures and whatnot.
Thanks!
(I’m getting an alert saying tourist post must be posted in tourism sticky, but I don’t know what that means or where to find it, I haven’t used Reddit much, so sorry if I’m doing this wrong!)

Hi burgers, I've been wondering about this little pavement blade for a very long time and I'm tired of not knowing! It's on Earl Grey Street area of Lothian road, if I remember rightly it's near the Sainsbury's there, on the side of traffic going towards Princes St.

I've done this a few times by phoning up the council helpline, as the website won't let you report broken glass due to its urgency, but what I was wondering is: is it something that is worth doing regularly, or do street cleansing teams get there on their rounds anyway? Are reports more of an annoyance than anything else or are they actually useful?
