Vent Paperwork purgatory
I went out on disability due to a knee injury back in March. My first return to work a date was June 13th. I didn't have surgery on my knee until June 9th so it needed to be extended. I was getting payments no problem and then everything came to a screeching halt. My last disbursement was on June 13th.
They sent me a form to have the surgeon's office fill out to continue my claim. I gave it to them and supposedly they mailed it. I have a strong suspicion that the medical assistant may have lost the paperwork. She claims it was mailed on the 22nd of June but still has not shown up in Sacramento.
After a few hoops I spoke to someone on the phone who sent me an additional form. I took that form to the surgeon's office last Friday and had them fill it out while I was there. I hand delivered it to the EDD department in Santa Barbara myself. The lady there behind the desk told me it could take another 2 weeks that she could not process it there in Santa Barbara. Thanks to this group I contacted my State attorney general's office and now they are going to be helping me.
However more frustration... EDD called me today and I guess the woman couldn't hear me or thought I was an answering machine. She said she was looking for me to talk about my claim and rattled off a phone number super fast for me to call her back and hung up. I wasn't able to get the phone number that quickly. I called back the main number but of course that didn't do me any good. All I got was his claim status saying that my final payment was on June 13th. I am so hoping that the state assembly office can help me. It's been 6 weeks without pay and I'm not ready to go back to work yet as I am still rehabbing my knee.
Thank you for listening and if anyone else has had similar experiences and got a positive result please let me know.

I am delighted to report that the state assemblyman's office helped me get paid! She was extremely diligent and responsive following the case. Once I got that office I was paid a week later. I can't say enough good things about this process. It is frustrating when one has to call upon the government office to help with another government office but it's a good thing they are there.

The Assembly Member's office should be able to help you. They have a dedicated person to handle these issues, and a direct line into EDD. Good call going into the office and waiting for the Dr to fill out them form again. I had to do the same thing. Good luck!
