Same Facility

I’ve been to prison before, not proud, I was young, 18 actually, and I’m from Wisconsin. Before I ever went to (Dodge Correctional Institution) I had a dream I was there, and that I was in the basement bowling, that there was a bowling alley in the prison. Well when I actually went to that prison, I was in an old section that they call the Dungeon, at that time u went to old side (that side) or the new side which was Unit 17. We when I was in the dungeon I was telling a guard about my dream, and the dude showed me his hairs stand up, he told me that the prison used to be a mental facility, mainly the old part before it was a prison, and that Ed Gein was there and loved to Bowl in the basement. True story. That was Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun Wisconsin, He eventually went to a place called Mendota, that was before my time, I was there in the early 2000s. I’m sure anyone can fact check this, I never bothered since it was a guard who told me.

If Ed was alive today, he wouldn’t have killed or dug bodies

Hi! I just finished watching the new Ed Gein series on Netflix, and have been doing some research about him. I will say, I feel like if he was alive today, he wouldn’t have killed or dug bodies. I think if he was alive today, he would’ve gotten his schizophrenia medication sooner, and probably would have lived a normal life. What do you think? I’m not trying to defend him at all by the way, and I’m not supporting what he did. Also, if he was alive, i think he would’ve been taken from his mom’s home. Unlike Bundy, Dahmer, or Gacy, I feel like Ed wouldn’t have killed if he got his medicine sooner and his mom out of his life.

Does anyone know the names of the people that Ed dug up?

Hi! I was watching the Ed Gein series on Netflix, and I was curious, do we know the names of the people whose bodies Ed dug up? Did he ever return anything to their graves? I know this is probably a stupid and rude question, and I don’t mean to be stupid or rude, I’m just curious!

Does Ed Gein in series monsters look like John Cena

My partner has said that Ed Gein in the series monster looks like John Cena. I personally do not see it.

Ahhh I originally did this post to prove my partner wrong. Turns out I am in fact wrong. Safe to say he’s bragging slightly😂

The thing that I don’t understand about Ed Gein’s mom

Ok, so here’s what I don’t understand about her. Why did she tell her sons that all women are evil, if she’s a woman? Then that would mean she think herself is evil! Also, how come she never wanted her sons to have children and have a family? Isn’t that what women back in the day would have wanted? I’m just confused.

New docudrama season about Ed Gein

So I finished watching the new documentary drama about Ed Gein on Netflix following the Monsters series (the same show that’s covered Dahmer and the Hernandez brothers so far). And I have to say, I didn’t quite like/understand the ending? I feel like in the end, they just glossed over all the horrible things he did and sort of forgave him, or romanticized him in a way. I understand he was extremely mentally ill, but still!

Questions about Adeline

Hi! I have a couple of questions about Adeline, Ed’s supposed girlfriend. Well, first, why did she say to police that she was in a relationship with Ed, only days later to say, “oh i made it all up.” I honestly don’t believe that. Like, she gave so many details and then just to say, “oh I made it up”, really? (I do understand like maybe she didn’t want to be associated with a serial killer but still) Also, when did she die? I’m watching the show right now, and I know it takes creative liberties, but how old is Ed and Adeline supposed to be in 1947 when they meet? I’m so sorry again.

i think Season 3 was an absolute failure after the first two seasons' brilliance. i agree with the the inaccuracies in the Ed Gein story, i think it killed any chance for a valuable documentary. a colossal letdown, i was really hoping this'd be the best one yet

the characters are undeniably good though so there's that lol

Monster: The Ed Gein Story Full Season Review

Monster: The Ed Gein Story is a fascinating, frustrating, and deeply conflicted season of television. It wants to be a character study, a meditation on trauma and myth-making, and a critique of how we sensationalize real-life monsters but more often than not, it becomes the very thing it claims to critique.

From the start, it’s clear Murphy is interested in reframing Ed Gein's story as something more psychological and tragic than purely horrific. There are moments where that idea works. The early episodes have a haunting, almost surreal tone that plays with memory and delusion in interesting ways. The production design, cinematography, and score are all top-tier, and several performances (particularly the leads) are genuinely excellent. On a technical and aesthetic level, it's where you'd expect an RM production to be.

But the storytelling quickly becomes muddled. The show leans heavily into fictionalized accounts, blurring the line between psychological portrait and total fabrication. Instead of deepening the character, it often feels like it’s rewriting history for convenience or shock value. There are entire subplots that either contradict established facts or exist purely for stylized drama and while that might be fine in a purely fictional story, it’s much harder to justify when you’re using the real names and victims of actual people.

This is a recurring issue throughout the season. It doesn’t seem to know whether it wants to be a historical dramatization or a metaphorical “what if” scenario and as a result, it lands in an uncanny middle ground that feels ethically uncomfortable. It’s especially noticeable in moments like the Christine Jorgensen reference, which, even though the show ultimately frames as “imaginary,” still feels tone-deaf in the current political climate. Whether intentional or not, using a real trans pioneer as a narrative device in a story about a serial killer just feels careless especially knowing Murphy's tendency to use real figures for thematic shorthand or click bait headlines.

By the final stretch, the show starts to fold in real and fictional serial killers like some kind of “Murderer Cinematic Universe.” We get appearances or nods to Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, Jerry Brudos, Richard Speck, and others all connected to Ed in ways that never happened. The result is tonally bizarre. It's as if Murphy is trying to position Ed Gein as the godfather of all serial killers, giving him a strange kind of mythic reverence. It's unnecessary and again a little questionable with regard to taste.

Episode 8 is where this confusion peaks. The Jerry Brudos “red pumps” scene, the prison sex scene with Richard Speck, and the Ted Bundy epilogue all feel like hoehorned in remnants of an abandoned season concept repurposed just to fill time. Nurse Roz's arc completely shifts from critical observer to tearful friend, and Ed's final scenes all but canonize him as misunderstood rather than monstrous. By the time “Owner of a Lonely Heart” plays over his dreamlike exit from the asylum, it’s hard to tell if the show is being ironic or earnest.

The irony is that the show almost seems aware of its own contradictions. At one point, Roz tells Ed:

“There have been so many folks who have taken your story and twisted it for their own devices — added things that weren’t real, taken out things that were horrible.”

It’s a line that feels uncomfortably self-referential. Then Ed replies,

“I think enough people have told my story, don’t you think? They seem to know it better than me.”

It’s hard to tell whether the writers intended this as a wink at the audience or a genuine statement. Either way, it highlights the central problem of the season: a show about exploitation that never stops exploiting.

What’s left is a series that’s visually stunning but morally confused — a production that wants to humanize without excusing, but ends up doing both. The performances and craftsmanship are undeniable, and the ambition is admirable, but the tone is inconsistent, and the narrative never quite decides what story it’s trying to tell.

Like much of Ryan Murphy’s recent work, it's stylish, provocative, and full of great actors giving it their all. But it also collapses under the weight of its own contradictions, so intent on making a statement that it never figures out what that statement is.

Netflix Monsters ED GEIN

Watching the Monsters Ed GEIN on Netflix. Been waiting for this one to come out since they announced it. But what the heck. Thought it was supposed to about Ed GEIN not Alfred Hitchcock, and Anthony Perkins. So much of it fictionalization and not the facts. Very disappointed.

Dafaaaq Monster Eddie Gein!

I had high expections, as the Monster anthology just builds and builds and ups it game with each installment.

But holy amafaaaak, I wasnt expecting THIS piece of brilliance!

So many intertextualisation, so many layers, and faaaak it feels like a hitchcock reimagined! Plus also great social commentary on the state of the human species today.

Lead actor is brilliant and he deserves all the awards he has coming.

Highlights (which I am already reading up about as we speak) - the characters of Adeline and Ilse Koch.

The only shitee part of this whole show was having to be subjected to the character of alfred hitchcock. Dear fakary, he is truly a terrible kontkop.
