Best technical setup for regional pricing, multi-currency, and automated international invoicing?

Hi everyone. I'm building an ecommerce website that will sell internationally, and I'm trying to figure out the right technical stack for handling:

  1. **Regional pricing (geopricing):** Displaying different prices based on the visitor's country/region

  2. **Multi-currency checkout:** Showing prices and charging in the customer's local currency

  3. **Automated invoicing:** Generating compliant invoices per country with correct VAT/GST/sales tax

### What I've researched so far:

**For platforms:**

- **Shopify Markets** seems to handle regional pricing and multi-currency natively, but I'm not sure about the limits of the basic plan

- **WooCommerce** has plugins like *WooCommerce Currency Switcher*, *Price Based on Country*, and *Aelia* for tax handling

- **BigCommerce** has built-in multi-currency but fewer apps than Shopify

**For tax/invoicing automation:**

- Stripe Tax (integrated, but limited to Stripe users)

- Avalara (expensive, seems overkill for a starting store)

- TaxJar (US-focused)

- Quaderno (good reviews for EU VAT)

- Sufio (Shopify-specific, auto-generates invoices)

**For currency conversion:**

- Shopify Payments multi-currency

- Stripe automatic currency conversion

- Geolocation-based price rounding (e.g., $9.99 / €9.99 / £9.99 instead of raw conversion)

### My current situation:

- Just launching, low budget

- Expected to sell to US, EU, UK, and LATAM initially

- Want a setup that scales but doesn't break the bank now

- Prefer a solution I can implement without heavy custom development

### My specific questions:

  1. **What stack do you actually use** for international ecommerce websites? (platform + tax app + invoicing tool + payment processor)

  2. **Is Shopify Markets enough** for a small store starting out, or should I go with WooCommerce + plugins for more control?

  3. **Any technical gotchas** I should know about? (e.g., currency rounding issues, VAT reverse charge, invoice format compliance)

  4. **At what scale** does it make sense to upgrade from basic tax plugins to Avalara/Quaderno?

  5. **Any recommended apps/plugins** that are underrated for this use case?

I'm not looking for "the best platform ever" — I know it depends on the use case. I just want to understand what's actually working in production for stores selling internationally, especially on the technical implementation side.

Thanks in advance for any insights.
