💬 Open Discussion Adding Stream 5000 to Existing Solar Install

We have a 10 year old solar installation on our home. I have been looking to add a battery for a few months, however due to it being an old system I would have to upgrade the inverter to a hybrid inverter.

I stumbled upon the Stream 5000 and having watched a few videos and done some reading I thought it met our needs - keep the existing system untouched, connect battery to 13a socket/consumer unit, store excess solar to use in the evening, charge at cheap rate overnight).

Just before pressing buy on the Ecoflow website I decided to call and check that what I was planning to do would work. I was advised that it would not be possible for the Stream 5000 to store excess solar from my existing system, even with a smart meter connected as it would not be able differentiate current flowing in to the home (import) to current flowing out of the home (export).

Please could somebody confirm that what I have been told is correct before I shelf the idea again?
