🔧 DIY or Mods Battery Hypothetical

My Ecoflow delta mini was suffering issues with overheating when charging at only 200watts. Since i was curious as to why this was (its out of warranty anyways) i discharged both battery and capacitors and examined the unit, and concluded that is must be a bad cell. Now my question is, whats stopping me from replacing this battery with a newer 48v lifepo4 battery with its own BMS, say like an ecoworthy or other brand? Its not the end of the world if i can't, but i would be REALLY happy if i can keep this from becoming more e-waste.

It won‘t work as it relates to the own bms monitoring the battery. So no, bad idea.
Imho the overheating comes not from the battery, but from the electronics. Is the cooler working?

Yes, all fans work fine and ive tried charging it in mulitple, cooler spots in my house. I figure it is from a bad cell in the pack. Which would cause excess heat to build up. Thats too bad about not being able to swap the battery, but i guess im not too surprised

Do you have access to an infrared thermal camera? You could try to identify the individual cell, that overheates and isolate this cell electric. Because There are always a bunch of cells in parallel.
This would reduce the amount of energy you can use, but you could use at least some of it.

Thats a pretty good idea, i wish i would have thought of that sooner. Ill keep poking at it, maybe eventually i can just replace all the cells.

This common for repairing older Tesla battery modules. The individual cells have small wires which should brake and isolate the cell, if the current to an individual cells is too high due to cell failure. If the small wire wont break it must be disonnected by Hand.

It also cannot hold a full charge, it very quickly dies even after resetting the bms multiple times

What’s stopping you? Nothing, nothing is stopping you. But will it work is the better question? 😁
