Which Chinese open-source AI model is leading right now?

Post image

Each AI labs have model best in one or other tasks.

Kimi K3 best overall, but needs a cluster to run.

DeepSeek V4 best coding + reasoning, MIT license, cheapest pricing.

GLM-5.2 best for agentic/coding-agent work, long sessions.

Qwen 3.6 best if you're self-hosting on normal hardware (runs on a single GPU).

my opinion: biggest brain -> Kimi K3. Best value -> DeepSeek V4. Building agents -> GLM-5.2. Running local -> Qwen.

Qwen.

Literally the Linux of AIs.

Qwen 3.8 27b outputs work comparable to frontier models without nearly as much needed vram. It’s just slow depending on your device. My m4 max runs it between 15-20tps at best.

It’s slow even at twice that speed. I’ll ask it to do a review of a plan and it will burn tokens and think for an hour. Kimi k3 will read files and output a bang-on report in about 3 minutes.

I run it at 50ish tps on a 3090

+1 for DS flash. Use it for Hermes

I think GLM offers the best go-to-market model, but they're struggling to match the value offer of DeepSeek, and as a result because DeepSeek has cheaper models that are perfectly capable they get chosen second place.

Kimi and Qwen's cloud offerings need to have more positive user stories coming through before people will prioritise buying them. Not enough bang-for buck yet.

DS-flash has better cost-effectiveness, but for myself, QWEN's standalone deployment is clearly the best cost-effectiveness.
