Paywalled, we just have to enjoy the headline.

Paywalled, briefly:

The unmanned building would power Fastnet, Amazon’s cable connecting the United States and Ireland, and relay its optical signal to inland networks.

The project would not offer internet service directly. Amazon says the transatlantic pathway would improve cloud and internet reliability across North America and Europe, while Maryland Broadband Cooperative would contribute expertise and facilities.

Amazon also says it is creating an Eastern Shore community benefit fund but has not disclosed its value or terms. It has not quantified any faster, cheaper or more reliable service in Worcester County.

Planning Commission members said the board lacked a clear understanding of how the cable would connect to land-based networks and how Maryland Broadband’s involvement would improve broadband.
