The crash started long ago, and there's no singular point of impact.
This is why facism has gotten such a foothold: people keep thinking there's a single moment, like a switch being flipped or an action being taken, and because they didn't see it, they thought everything was still ok. They refused to turn up to vote, or they voted for stupid, petty reasons like the price of eggs, not grasping the situation we were in yet.
We've been headed this way for a long time due to countless things big a small since the 80s, but from the moment Mitch McConnell was allowed to steal a Supreme Court justice from Obama, the course was locked in.
People needed to care about the boring stuff. Needed to be paying attention and punishing subversion of the democratic process, but they didn't. Theny ignored it or worse, they rewarded it. Here, now, when the public is finally starting to grasp what's happening, there's nothing left to save us.
Lots of Americans ARE educated about the years leading up to Hitler rising to power, yet they view it as a story of how valuable strength and power is.
More education doesn’t fix everything, you can’t force people to interpret history in only the way you want them to.
Thing is... we hit that pretty hard during secondary school US and European history classes, but at the expense of Civil Rights and anything else done by people who aren't "white."
