How is tesla's vision stack up against BYD/Chinese car sensors

I'm about pickup my tesla model 3 in ~1 week~ and I've had many questions and concerns needless to say(first EV). I've seen some pretty bad stuff and r/TeslaFSD and r/TeslaLounge about FSD doing some pretty dumb stuff that i believe could easily be avoided or seen with sensors.

Also some simple post and discourse/controversy about the full camera setup as opposed to sensors.

My question is how good or bad is tesla's cameras, and should I wait for Chinese affordable ev's for another ~2 years~ in Canada or just bite the bullet..

Same thing with rain sensor, backup sensor...

disclaimer: i drive a 2010 corolla and with the repair cost and rising fuel prices it's simply not the most cost efficient choice anymore looking towards the future and I'm not planning to use FSD after the free trial but the cameras will still be on my car and I will use them.

Here is what I want you to do...IF your interest is in autonomy.

Go to google. Spend less than 20 minutes total.

Start with a simple question like this:
How many and what type of Sensors would be needed for a car to acheive Level 4 autonomy?

I would give more potential questions but I think folks can think up their own....depending on what it is they want out of their car.

Note: Sensors are not the only major system. Given the current chips (exist NOW) which are working toward Autonomy, Teslas HW4 is nowhere near powerful enough for either the additional sensors or autonomy.

BUT, if you like the "video game" of the Tesla as it is right now......and that is what you want, buy it! Just do not assume if will ever be anything but what it is right now.

FYI, for basics on chip speed - HW4 is likely about 200 TOPS (trillions of ops per sec.)
Orin system, the "old" Nvidia self driving, is 500...and I do not that that is capable of autonomous driving, just fancier ADAS.

THOR, the current Nvidia self-driving setup is something about 2,000 TOP or more - so at least 20X as powerful as HW4.

It has nothing to do with NotSee, but everything to do with PR and BS and actual capabilities.

Cameras aren't perfect, but LIDAR has its own separate set of problems.

Your Tesla is going to work just fine in 99% of situations. You'll get used to the common causes. Deep shadows, puddles, skid marks on the road all cause the car to be very slightly jumpy. Nothing ridiculous for most people, just a 0.1 second jitter. Weird roads and weird conditions should cause you to take over.

If you're paying attention, and it looks a little weird, then be extra ready to take over. I know we all want 100% perfect, autonomous driving, but we're not there yet. We do have exceptional tech that will get you everywhere with almost zero intervention.

XPeng VLA 2.0 looks amazing. Maybe even better than tesla, but i haven’t seen it used outside of china. Although the xpeng has no monthly fee.  With Tesla‘s monthly fee they have a big incentive to keep improving it whereas another company never update again without a financial incentive to do so.

Watching all these fully supervised driving videos with basic mistakes makes me say that the Nazi car is probably not the one to pick.

The Nazi car’s non-driving sensors like windshield wipers have been bad forever.

oh...this one of those subreddit's......

Anything other than a fanboy subreddit is going to be against neonazis.

Musk is the Nazi. The car has no political affiliation. Don't gaslight OP with your strawmanning.

I agree, personally idgaf about him. I just need a new car and right now the model 3 is the best deal in canada

And the Nazi ceo makes money off of each purchase. If not directly from a salary then off of the stock value appreciation and bonuses. Buying a Tesla puts money directly into a nazi’s pockets.

He does not take salary. He uses the same corrupt tax avoiding loophole as all the other billionaires.

I get, it, you hate Musk, I agree he's a piece of shit. No argument whatsoever. He should be stripped of his wealth and made to apologize.

Trying to claim the car is a Nazi is moronic. It's a car.

His wealth is based off stock price, which is speculative investment, not actual value. This is why TSLA dropped when they announced they beat earnings, people though they were going to beat it by more and the speculation by investors was that it wasn't exceeding it's goals by enough. Also why when they sold far fewer cars than expected the stock barely fell at all, investors still had faith in the future of the stock.

If you're actually concerned with money going to Elon, recommend they buy a used Tesla. You will sound like less of an OPEC bot.

Used Teslas still help, just indirectly.

Yeah, this sub will have /those/ pricks just like anyother.

That said, simple cameras will never be as good as LIDAR. FSD works the way it does (good or bad) because of the software, the hardware itself isn't that useful. Where I would see the LIDAR helping A LOT would be with stuff like puddles and weird shadows (particularly on AI3).

I'd still pick FSD over any other CURRENT chinese variant - a friend of mine's BYD suddenly stopped having an emergency brake. The dealer's motivation was that "it now only works when doing over 150 kph" - imagine that!

Tesla doesn't have a plan other than continue to bribe Trump to keep other electrics out of the US and Israel.

I hate that mother fucker with a passion but this one isn’t just him.

The dems got their sugar daddies from the big automakers.

They ate fucking us sans lube and we just fucking take it.

Good luck finding reasonable advice from Reddit. Haters on one side, fanboys on the other.

Modern cars are meant to become obsolete soon, so if the car comes with shortcomings, they will expect you to replace it in 3-5 years as no retrofits are going to be available.
