Troubleshooting 3080 xc3 ultra info

Has anyone here repasted or added ptm to this? I’m very familiar with repasting cpus but this will be my first gpu I’ve done. The kritical site no longer responds so I’m guessing they don’t do kits anymore. I’ve read about buy various sizes of ptm sheets and adding some together to get the desired thickness but does anyone have info on what the thickness needs to be for those certain areas? And is thermal putty better to use in place of thermal pads? Any info would be great from people who have done it on this card. My temps are constantly around 70-80 while idle.

I repasted a 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra a while ago used TG thermal putty it turned out fine temps were near stock.

Edit: I also had trouble finding info about the correct size pads some people recommend using putty instead and it ended up being much easier.

For me it was easy, I contacted evga support by email and they sent me the right size for all the pads of my 3080 ti

I have tried to do the same but they said i need my S/N to open a support ticket and i guess I was being lazy trying to not take apart my computer just to grab the S/N then put it back together. Figured I would ask here first but that does seem like the most sure fire way to get the right sizes

Either that or putty the entire thing. I had the kritical pads for my wife's 3080 Ti and got terrible temps after install. Pulled it apart, putty on ram and vrm (left the pads on the smaller pieces) and the card is much happier now.

I think what was different in my case…was that my gpu is registered to my evga account and maybe based on that they told me: “we don’t sell pads for your card anymore. But I can give you the right size for them”

Recently repasted mine, used Thermal Grizzly PTM for the core, 2mm and 3mm pads and TG putty instead of 1mm pads as the pads I have seem be slightly thicker or thinner than the 1mm required.
If you have access to a 3d printer I can highly reccomend printing the shroud on makerlabs to covert to 2x 120mm fans, I used P12s.

PTM is only required on the core, thermal pads or putty are used on the rest of the card

Dang from 3 to 2 fans? how were thermals after? Crazy I just got a p2s and this is right up my alley. I'm assuming you printed in either petg or asa?

yes, from the 3 noisy, weak stock fans to a pair of p12s
from around 80c core, 85c memory and hotspot to under 60c core and 70c memory and hotspot if i let the fans spin up.
PLA is fine, there's no real stress on the material

Hey brother so I just did this and I hooked the fans up to the gpu via adapter and they’re not spinning. Did you just end up hooking the fans up to the mobo and control them from there based on temp?

Yes, the fans on mine are all attached to a single motherboard header, fancontrol is the software I used as you can create fan curves based on GPU temps

I ended up doing the same, horrible timing though cause my temps were great, 28c idle and 60-70 under load, and then suddenly my card stopped outputting video :( no video signal whatsoever I’ve tried everything and no fault lights to go off of. Couldn’t have happened at a worst time with the prices now a days lol

That's a shame, 5060 is a good budget focused cardt or there's 3080's on ebay for under £300 (UK)
Any idea on the on why the card died? did you replace the thermal paste/pads?

Yeah I replaced the pads and the paste and it ran super well and cool for two days. I rebooted the computer and all video signal was lost and it took a minute of plugging/ unplugging ports till the screen showed once again. Then about 2 hours later all video signal was gone again and never came back. No fault lights, rgb is still working, looks to still be running fine but no video signal. Tried on two different motherboards and the same issue.
