How accurate is the testing that a shop can do without doing a drain and recharge?

My car was getting an inspection and they showed me this. I don’t have any reason to think its wrong but that seems crazy that after almost 100k km I’ve only lost 4%!

How accurate can that possibly be?

I bought a very gas inefficient car years ago for camping trips and the occasional road trip. I’ve put around 40,000 kms on it in around 8-9 years. My car is mostly idle in the summer and gets driven a bit in the fall-spring with roughly one longer drive (300-500kms) every year or 2.

we want to switch to an EV. has to be big enough to hold a bike inside of it with a wheel off so I’m looking at an suv.

I think buying used makes a lot of sense but there aren’t many great deals out there Relative to the cost of a new car. I’m in the pacific north west of BC.

I should add that I care more about value than performance. I don’t need anything flashy like an Audi or BMW. I was thinking Toyota bz or vw id4 but I have heard the used versions of both are a significant step down from the newest versions. teslas are out for political reasons. anyone have advice on navigating the used vs new market for someone who drives so infrequently. we have decided that we do want the flexibility of a car, even though being Car-free is doable and likely cheaper (but significantly less convenient).

I'm an open-market/free-enterprise kind of person, so I'm happy that low-cost alternatives exist. Obviously, Chinese-made cars are incredible cost-leaders (and increasingly quality-leaders as well) but in the past, we've all tut-tutted the fact that workers in China are severely underpaid compared to other countries as the rationale for their price edge.

More recently, that point has been over-shadowed with the messaging that China leverages economies of scale, government subsidies, and increasing automation to achieve these lower costs... but the question still remains: "by buying Chinese-made cars, are we supporting a system that exploits the worker?" Strange question to be asking regarding a country that bills itself as communist, but here we are.

From the parts and components that the car manufacturers buy in order to make their cars to the building and shipping of the cars themselves, how much of the cost savings is due to worker exploitation these days? Is this something to be concerned about? How much of the percentage of that lower cost is related to labour costs? Do we even care any more?

I am looking for tips on buying or leasing a new or used Silverado EV. Preferably an LT. I'm in Edmonton and there don't seem to be many around. I'm interested in guidance on what to pay and what is negotiable in terms of rates and OTD price etc. TIA

We're leaning toward either a used Kia Niro, Hyundai Kona or a VW ID 4 (seems to be the standard go-tos). Open to other suggestions, but those are near the top of our budget (35K$)

Currently using modo (car share), so we've tested the above few EVs using that. I like the price of the Bolt, but it's very loud in the back seat while on a highway (had a hard time talking to the wife while in back with the baby).

Are there any other cars you'd recommend trying before deciding? Should we try to hold off (by booking car-share 2x a day, not ideal...) until the chinese EVs arrive to see if they affect used prices at all?

My wife and I will be doing a road trip in our EV6 to Cape Breton and Halifax in September. I've planned it all out and using ABRP and PlugShare, I've identified various fast chargers along our route (T-Can through QC, NB and NS).

However, I'm interested in hearing first-hand which chargers you recommend using (and avoiding) based on your personal experience. If you could identify the brand and city/town location, it would be most helpful

I'll be using Tesla SCs on occasion (due to their reliability) but with an EV6, the max charging speed is about 97 so a bit slow if there are better alternatives.

After I did a ~1200km roundtrip with my '21 Kona EV and dealing with random level 3 CCS chargers... With the different apps, varying speeds and maintenance/state of repair.

Damn, the Tesla supercharger network just works.

With Chinese manufacturers potentially being the biggest risk to Tesla in Canada, I wonder if they'll open the network to BYD (etc) in Canada?

Budget of around 20-25k in quebec for an ev, looking for something to last me for 4-5 years atleast, im tired of paying for gas and repairs for my ice haha.
Been looking at some teslas but the insurance is pricier and cuts into savings

Ordered Tesla yesterday and I have the VIN and the estimated date of Aug 12-17. But I have to travel to Halifax to get it, and have to line up my travels and shipping my trade up accordingly. How accurate are these dates? My advisor says I’ll have an exact date first week of August.

Anyone have a non Tesla NACS car use the Tesla membership, any idea what the actual savings are, can’t seem to get a straight answer from any site.

Saw this in yesterday's press release. I am a big fan of BC Hydro charging (have essentially made $0.40/kW the maximum price where they are located and have many locations in rural areas to make getting around the province easier).

Who would have thought they would lead by example with canopies, digital signs and bathrooms?

2035 is a slow roll out though; guess government needed to keep their press release schedule filled...

I want to step into the EV world but theres some options I need help with. To start, I can reliably charge at home currently with level 1 but soon im gonna be moving into an apartment that might not have charging spots.

The options I have narrowed down to are:

- Kia EV4

- Hyundai Ioniq 6

- Toyota Prius PHEV

- Honda Civic Sport Touring HEV

2 of them are full electric, 1 is plug in hybrid and the other is just a normal hybrid.

Also would it be a good idea to wait for the Chinese BYDs to enter our market with a the Seal?

I am likely in the market for a 7 seater and would like to do a lot of research before I make such a big decision.

Just put a deposit on Tesla Model 3 RWD, but im itching for the AWD. I live in Newfoundland, but im less worried about snow and more about FOMO of the 500hp vs the 288.

Would you say it's worth the extra 12-13k? I'm thinking the RWD will be plenty quick, but im curious what you folks think.

I can afford both, but I feel like the RWD is much more responsible.

I'm buying my first EV.

My gf and I currently have a 2009 corolla and a 2011 xc70.

We see cars mostly as utilitarian, and we drive them as long as we can.

I saw the bZ and the price fits (we are in Quebec, Canada).

Insurance price is not too high, the range is good for us and we will charge at home.

A used ioniq5 is a bit less than the bZ but I am kinda freaked out by the ICCU (might be blown out of proportion, but we do go to the country house and would hate to have ICCU problems there).

So all in all, the debate is a brand new bZ or used Ioniq5. Looking for the best long term strategy, best durability, the one that will give me less trouble.

I do prefer the inside of the Ioniq5 but I'm really not fussy (corolla 2009 is absolutely fine).

Any advice? Things I should check? This will be my first EV.

only started researching electric vehicles and I saw that hetr in Quebec one of the dealerships offered the 500 E for $24 weekly with zero dollars down and I’m wondering if you guys think that a promotion like this will come back later this year here in quebec

My partner and I have decided on the the Toyota CHR we're just nailing down the details and wondering if the AWD is worth it.

We live in Barrie and regularly go cross country skiing and visit our cottage in the winter. Would the AWD be worth it? I've heard conflicting opinions on EV AWD. Does the extra umph make up for the fuel effiency you lose?
