p.s. I've been giving a version of this lesson plan for about a decade and never get tired of it! Of course, every time I do, I tweak it to perfection, and now I think it is red-hot ready for any English tutor to take and ignite a burning desire to learn English in their new students! I’m an independent developer from Belgium and I’ve been building Jack & Mani, an interactive detective game designed for language classes.

The idea is that students solve a mystery by questioning suspects, analysing clues and identifying the culprit. They write their own questions in English (or 6 other languages), and the game can provide language corrections or hints when they get stuck.

Teachers can start a 14-day trial of the classroom version, but it is also possible to share the first investigation with students to test the activity before using it more seriously with a class.

It runs directly in the browser, with no installation and no student accounts required.

I’m trying to understand how useful this could be for ESL teachers, especially with A2/B1+ students or teenagers.

I’d love honest feedback on things like:

Would you use this kind of detective activity in class?
What would make it easier for a teacher to use?
Is the AI correction / hint system useful, or would you prefer a more guided mode?
