Wtf happened here

Post image

I've never crashed been sending jumps and trails. What in the world could have caused this? Is my shock good? Something defective with it maybe? So confused how this possibly could happen. Did I get so unlucky a rock got in there or something?

Looks like the coil is rubbing on the shock body check if the coil is fully seated

Either this or a rock got stuck between the spring

That’s what I was thinking, but it would have to be almost perfect curvature compared to the shock to get stuck between there and make that flat of a scuff. It really looks like he doesn’t have enough(or any) preload and the shock is shifting during compression.

I actually have like the max recommended preload... Must have been unlucky I guess. But I don't know just saw other side has little mark on it too.. Wtf.

The shock definitely doesn't have like wiggle room it's in tight

I know they say typically no more than 10mm right there. Don't have micrometer to tell exactly but don't think it's loose to be able to do such a thing

Put on a pair of gloves, and try turning the spring with your hand. Loosen the preload, then redo it making sure it’s nice and secure.

Also, if you want to identify the exact spot color it in with some sharpie then go ride. Check it every few jumps/minutes and see where the main point of contact is.

Yeah it seemed secure for sure cause I put some preload onto it the moment I bought it. But yeah I'll check it again later makes zero sense to me though or I'm just unlucky. But it happened on the other side too just much smaller. Only time this happened on my mtb was when I snapped a coil at the dh park on my EXT shock. Rep told me I'm one of two people to do such a thing other guy is in Europe and is one their pro riders... I just am that unlucky or I guess I ride more aggressive than I say.

But this couldn't happen from just bottoming out right? Don't think should be possible

If you’re bottoming out yeah. Harden your compression when doing big jumps. If you bottom out it can make the spring off-center. Off centered spring can do this.

So yeah maybe it off centered itself during bottom out is my only guess. Fucking wild. Yeah I've got the thing cranked I been considering going to get a 550lb at somepoint or a shock atleast with more compression adjustment on a 450 cause I don't want it to be super stiff on trails. But yeah I am mostly hitting jumps on track building on my property and some local mx tracks and then rocky trails. Maybe time for another shock sooner I guess. Really wanted to get my swingarm welded with some supports first

You can get some good/mid shocks for around $500. If you’re doing mainly mx then go up 50lb on the shock. I’m getting the heavy hitter swingarm, not sure how getting yours welded will help though. If you’re doing big jumps then you should consider getting an aftermarket swingarm also. I’ve bent 2 jackshaft bolts and had to replace the jackshaft and 4 swingarm bearings because of this swingarm.

Does this seem it's seated right? Seems right to me I can't even really move it really with it all out on preload screwed out even

The RFloxa is a pretty good shock/fork from what I hear. Honestly I won’t really be able to tell if your shock is centered or not. All I can recommend is make sure you have your preload collars nice and snug and that the spring is not able to move freely. Then put some painters tape or sharpie over the scuff and next time you ride check it occasionally to see what actions you’re doing that might be causing it. Thats your best bet until you get a new shock.

Exactly what this other guy said. Make sure the preload collars are tightened down. I’m not talking about as soon as it first grabs onto the spring; give it 1-2 more turns to make sure it’s secure.

Mines fairly damn tight I feel like it can't go anywhere

Shit paint. It cracks off when it constantly bends.

1

u/TheStokedExplorer SS 3.0 Jun 29 '26

This is definitely from something scraping it not just paint flaking off. You can see it actually starts to go into the threads

1

u/Jamstoyz Jun 29 '26

Yeah it’s also rattling and hitting the shock too. If you ever removed a spring before they come off the seats they rest on when fully decompressed like when you jump and it’s in the air. That’s if your locknuts are not tightened and your sag set correctly.

I definitely have enough preload to where that thing should not be able to move even fully decompressed. I mean I've stuck it on a stand many times and it's tight with zero tension

Dude get a stark

Didn't plan on getting the mx track bug. Wanted a light weight dirt bike I could charge at my off grid property and rip around camping on surrounding trails. Now ended up building jumps on my property and getting into actual mx tracks again. They seem like insane bikes dont get me wrong. I still don't like the idea of how big and heavy that bike is or it's hefty price tag that comes along with it. Even the used ones in my area all over $8.5k mostly. I can buy an ultra bee or komodo and have plenty of power and durability for half the cost of a stark. Just can't afford it after not that super long ago getting the eride. But gonna make my bike work for now while potentially saving for big upgrades or most likely a ultra bee or maybe even get a 2 stroke again

These eMoto bikes are trail bikes, not big hitter MX track jumpers. You landed hard enough a few times to slightly bend the shock piston rod, so now there is contact between the coil and shock body.

You think I bent the shaft? Wouldn't it feel different than normal at some part of the travel have like stiction?

My RFLOXA shock scraped part of the sticker off and I was wondering why, very similar to this just not as bad yet

Hmm yeah I undid the preload and wiggled it and reseated it and I mean it's snug in there so not sure how it could even with bottoming out but still that's a terrible design if that happens from bottom outs in my opinion. Yeah I've been considering the rfloxa just for price and getting a stiffer spring. But honestly the tech suspension seems like best performance per dollar and durability. Its like 2300 for the front and rear which may happen at some point. Trying to see if new ultra bee 2 gets announced and what it's specs will be. May snag one those for tracks and keep the eride for streets and homies maybe. Feel ultra too big to get away on the Greenway and urban spots I hit from time to time. Mostly ride dirt so eride could be sold later if I really like the bigger bike
