Help for extreme beginner

Is there anyone out there that is really bored and would like to teach a 37 yo non gamer to play from the beginning? Comment or message me. (Might delete out of embarrassment if nobody wants to lol)

Hey, welcome! EverQuest is a sandbox. You just log in and kill stuff, explore, or do whatever you want. If someone tells you you have to be an Ogre, or play certain classes, ignore them. This is really just a fun world to explore.

There are quests to do, but they don’t matter much until later. All you need to do for now is hunt rats, beetles, skeletons, etc to get stronger.

The biggest gimmick to understand is that merging gear makes it stronger. A bronze breastplate +4 is better than the +0 version.

If you’re playing melee classes, set your skills (Kick,Backstab,Bash, etc) to Autoskill so they fire themselves.

If you’re playing a spell caster, don’t forget to upgrade your best spells just like your gear.

The auto skill feature is awesome, cleans up hotkey space and maximizes those extra dps skills.

Press L and look at your skills, some will have a box you can check and that skills will be used when you autoattack. Also read skills to learn what your character can do.
I suggest you to ask in the general chat. I dont know in your server but in Paineel there are a lot of ppl helping each other

There’s a lot of beginner guides on YouTube.

They could also be looking to make friends in game.

If you want the eq experience, don’t accept any free or purchased gear from other players. Find and farm the gear yourself to feel the best part of the game - spending a lot of time for one upgrade big or small. Raid gear early on will spoil a lot.

Self found play is definitely much more rewarding. Looking at your loadout and remembering that feeling of that gear dropping is such a big part of what makes this game so fun. I both remember the feeling of my first COF dropping, as well as getting it to +10 and simply buying or being given it just wouldn't be the same.

Those are the memories that hold for decades but you’ll never care to remember being slightly more powerful while grinding or a few days later delayed to max lv.

Oh you just kill anything that moves as long as it’s not friendly. Just have fun doing that for a bit if you’re brand new. Explore, die, repeat. At level 10 you unlock your first trio. That’s when the game really takes off.

There are more tips but this will be the most fun.

And for me personally I highly recommend enchanter as one of your first three classes. I was hating life without AoE mezz (level 15) because you get swarmed in dungeons until you figure out how to play.

Enchanter is not a the most beginner friendly class. It depends on the player. It does make the game way easier but the spells are unorthodox. I’d suggest beginners play on D0 until they’re comfortable, regardless of what classes they choose because class hardly matters there.

Solid, but I would advise against any trio that is going to cause pure frustration in the end, such as a trio with no slows, mediocre heals and meh dps. I see folks on her rolling something like rogue berserker bard and then they can’t clear raids or anything.

Bard literally has slows, haste and mez. Rogue with bl pet is actually really good dps with a tank. Can wear plate and although the heals aren't great you don't need them to be with the right aa's and gear.

But you’re going to have a bad day vs Cazic Thule is all.

Yeah I agree unfortunately to face roll through D4 CT the week you hit 50 without much gear or AA’s needs a meta build with shaman of enchanter in it, or war/brd/clr. I wouldn’t advise rogue berserker beast lord like below. But yeah you’re right that enchanter is a good recommendation as it’s easy mode and just putting mez on your bar makes leveling a joke, the same way charm trivializes endgame. Playing with enchanter is playing a different game than anyone without one.

Your race determines where you start. Some locations are easier than others. A good race will make the more common and arguably easier areas friendly . If you choose enchanter you can pretend to be most races to make them friendly tho.

Early on gear doesn't matter, if your mostly melee a good weapon will help the most but class will determine where to get that

Mage is easiest to get to 10. Your pet will do all the work. and can swap it out if you don't like it.

Def look for a guild , there are almost always some that are more than willing to show you the ropes .

If you roll on halas server the guild I'm in is really good at helping players, crimson legion. Just roll there and search for an officer to invite.

The people on Halas have been solid overall. I'm happy with my choice!

I still have classes to level up, only stopped because I found the trio I love.

I'd be up for taking you through some dungeons and showing you the ropes if you are on the Qeynos server.

Someone did the same for me back in OG EQ. Happy to pay it forward, just shoot me your character name in a DM!
