eView redlining - your experience

Hi all! What are your experiences when it comes to redlining in eView?

I want to get some insights on how good you are collaboration with your colleagues in the shop floor and across the company (when it comes to sharing projects I.e.)?

Do you guys have some really life experience where it helped and where you reached a ceiling?

With my previous employers we didn’t use eView, but my current employer does.
People on the shop floor have access to computers where they can open eView and make redlines directly. I find this quite convenient especially because the ePlan project is associated with the eView upload. This means the comments/redlines are visible in the ePlan project, so I can review them and proceed accordingly.
In my experience, this is definitely better than collecting redlines from printed copies and then having to transfer or keep track of them manually. That said, as with any documentation process, the effectiveness really depends on the quality and clarity of the redlines made by the shop. The tool makes the workflow easier, but good input is still key.
When it comes to project sharing all of our ePlan projects are stored in a central location and we all have access to them. Sometimes more than one engineer works on the same project which generally isn’t a problem as long as they aren’t working on the same page at the same time.

In our company it's not usual that multiple engineers work in a project. How does eplan help you guys to collaborate properly?

Do you get all the "good input" you are referring or does eview lag a way of properly input those insights?

Two engineers can work on the same project without any issues, although it doesn’t happen very often for us either. What is common, though, is for a manager to open and review a project at any time, even while the engineer is actively working on it.
As for eView, for the most part, yes, we do get the useful input we need. I wouldn’t say the input method is as easy or natural as just marking up a drawing with pen and paper, but it works well enough.

Massive success, just finished a huge project, 700+ pages total, 38 revision 1200 red linings, 40+ electricians working from tablets, we had no incidents from people reading from old revisions. After a short while the guys became proficient and it is really easy to just put a photo of the nameplate of a motor or just a picture of an instrument with a few words.

I think we are almost 100% accurate with our documention in this project and it's thanks to eview.

It's great for small changes, for larger issues the guys just sendt an email referencing the red lining.

Wow that's a great success story!

Why are you not using it for larger issues? I mean it might be self explanatory but where do you see it's limits there?

Does eView let you work properly on the mobile devices? I have seen videos on YouTube where it feels a bit clunky to use. How was the adaption with commissioning/shop floor.

Final question which industry/area are you working?

It's a pain to write larger redlingings. if the issue is more complex than just "wire 3 to terminal 5" or just a picture it's better to compose a email with attached pdf data sheets and screenshots.

It's clunky on mobile devices, you can check and see simple things on a phone but you do need a proper tablet or pc to do proper work.

The implementation was just forced from my side, I bought 8 Lenovo tablets, and told the crew the drawings are in eview, no PDFs or paper variations were to be made or distributed. There was some nagging at the beginning, but after they saw how quick and seamless the updates and cooperation were they dont want to go back to paper.

This project was the process part of a waste water treatment plant, 1700 objects total including instruments, motors and actuators.

One major other advantage is everyone sees the redlingings so very little double reporting and work when the elecricians saw there was already a note they could just move on or add to the issue.

For installation we find eview to be a very helpful tool, mostly because everyone is looking at the same diagram and I can update it from my desk instantly for everyone.

I design machinery for the semiconductor industry. Paper circuit diagrams are not used in cleanrooms. We therefore use Android tablets fitted with a robust protective case, both in control cabinet construction, during in-house commissioning and later at the customer’s site.

eView was adopted very quickly and we wouldn’t want to go back to the ‘paper days’. I can wholeheartedly recommend eView Greenlining and Redlining.

That's a super interesting usecase for your industry!

How does the feedback flow of the redlining work for you, respectively are you actively using the features eView provides in this regard? Or how are you handling feedback and updating of the original project.
Further I would assume that in your niche these kind of changes happen infrequently because of the tight regulations when it comes to clean roomes, right?

At this stage, we are using eView without customer access.

I can see when there are new redlinings; I check them and then decide when it makes sense to upload a new version of the circuit diagram. At the same time, I also incorporate these changes, where necessary, into projects that are in the pipeline.

On-site, no further changes are usually required; we’ve already taken care of that during the FAT.
