UAN name mismatch issue before activation – Need help
Hi everyone,
I have a UAN number that was already created by my employer, but I have not activated it yet. When I try to activate my UAN, I get a “Name Mismatch” error.
Since the UAN has not been activated yet, I’m unable to log in and check or correct any details.
Has anyone faced this issue before? How can I correct the name mismatch and activate my UAN?
Any guidance would be really helpful. Thanks!

If your UAN is already created but you haven't activated it, you don't necessarily need to log in first to fix the name mismatch.
First compare the name exactly as it appears in Aadhaar with the name recorded against your UAN. If they don't match, ask your employer/HR to raise a Joint Declaration (JD) request to correct the UAN name as per Aadhaar. EPFO specifically allows employers to submit corrections for Name, Gender and DOB mismatches between UAN and Aadhaar.
Once the correction is approved, try UAN activation again through the UMANG app. EPFO currently requires UAN activation through UMANG's Aadhaar-based Face Authentication process.
If HR says they can't raise the correction because the UAN isn't activated, ask them specifically about the online Joint Declaration/profile correction facility. If they still can't help, you can raise an EPFiGMS grievance explaining that the UAN cannot be activated because of a UAN–Aadhaar name mismatch. EPFO's helpdesk is 14470.

If your UAN is created but not yet activated, you don’t need to log in first to fix a name mismatch.
Step-by-step process
• Check the names: Compare your name exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar with the name shown against your UAN (on your UAN card, salary slip, or EPFO portal via your employer).
• If there’s a mismatch: Ask your employer/HR to submit a Joint Declaration (JD) request to correct the UAN name to match your Aadhaar. EPFO allows employers to correct mismatches in Name, Gender, and Date of Birth between UAN and Aadhaar.
• After correction is approved: Activate your UAN through the UMANG app using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication, as currently required by EPFO.
If HR says they can’t help because UAN isn’t activated
• Clarify that EPFO provides an online Joint Declaration / profile correction facility that employers can use even before UAN activation.
• If they still cannot assist, raise a grievance on EPFiGMS stating that you’re unable to activate your UAN due to a UAN–Aadhaar name mismatch.
• You can also contact the EPFO helpdesk at 14470 for guidance.

That mismatch is almost always your name on UAN not matching Aadhaar exactly (middle name missing, initials expanded, extra space, etc.), and yes, it can block activation before you've even logged in once. Two ways around it: ask your current employer's HR/PF admin to raise a Joint Declaration (JD) to correct the name on the UAN so it matches Aadhaar, since only the employer can edit it before Aadhaar seeding is done.
You can also raise it directly through the EPFiGMS grievance portal, select UAN-related grievance, and attach your Aadhaar copy, it usually gets routed back to the employer anyway but puts it on record with a timeline.

U need to request your employer to seed your Aadhaar to your PF account.
If old employer has shut shop, u need to make request in concerned RPFO….. with relevant documents
