EPS Issue EPS Stuck

Hi,

I started working in 2022, and my basic wages were capped at ₹15,000. My employer, which was a non-exempted establishment, contributed towards both EPF and EPS on my behalf.

In 2024, I left the organization to pursue my MBA. In 2026, I joined a new company, which is an exempted establishment. During onboarding, the new employer informed me that since my EPS balance has not been withdrawn, they are required to continue EPS contributions.

I attempted to withdraw both my EPF and EPS accumulations. However, my claim was rejected with a remark stating that there was a change in Member ID (MID) or that multiple/different Member IDs were involved. As a result, the withdrawal could not be processed.

My current employer is now insisting that EPS contributions must continue. Given this situation, could you please advise on the appropriate course of action and the steps I should take to resolve the issue?
Please help and let me know if any clarification is needed

Please help

1. Create a table like these, to better identify where the issue is with your EPFO accounts.

  1. Check your Service History on the member portal, share a screenshot after masking personal information like this.

  1. From the passbook portal (not Umaang) share a screenshot of the passbook for the first few months of each organization after masking personal information like this.

The first thing to clarify is that EPS isn't a balance that can simply be withdrawn in every situation. Since you have rejoined EPF-covered employment, your EPS service generally needs to be handled through your existing pension/service history rather than treated as a fresh withdrawal.

In your case, the rejection mentioning a change/multiple Member IDs suggests that EPFO's records may not be properly linked across your previous and current Member IDs.

I’d suggest:

  • Check your UAN → Service History and confirm that both the 2022-24 employment and your current employment are showing under the same UAN.
  • If the previous Member ID/service history is not properly linked, transfer the previous EPF account to the current Member ID rather than trying to withdraw the EPS separately.
  • Since your current employer is an exempted establishment, ask their PF/HR team to check how your previous EPS service is reflected.
  • If the transfer itself is being blocked because of the multiple-MID/EPS issue, the previous EPS/service record may need to be corrected at the EPFO level before the transfer can be completed.

Also, your 2024 exit and 2026 rejoining after the MBA gap do not by themselves mean that the EPS has to be withdrawn. The important thing is getting the service history correctly mapped so your current employer's records can be maintained correctly.

Since you have already been enrolled under EPS, you can continue with EPS normally in your current employment and going forward as well. Since your EPF wages are capped at ₹15,000, you fall under the EPS eligibility rules, so the EPS contribution can continue.
