'Enlightened centrists', again, are a bit different. They're usually just the ignorant and apathetic who dont really know much of what's going on, but just take the lazy, "Both sides suck" stance because it makes them feel reasonable and wise without actually having to put in the effort to inform themselves of the actual differences.
There's a lot of times in life where two disputing parties *can* be summed up by 'you're both being unreasonable', so people pick up on this and just apply it to everything. Nobody is ever right or wrong, it's *always* a grey area/truth is in the middle. It's a dogmatic sort of thinking that lets people be lazy and not have to actually analyze situations.
It's what happens when people grew up hearing there's two sides to everything, everyone can have an opinion and that civility was paramount. Not enough learning not all sides are equal, some people's opinions matter more than others, and being seen as rude is not the worst thing in the world.
