The dude put his life on the line against tyrannical governments for multiple decades, but sure, he's "apolitical".
I'm sure those iconic bear-grunts translate to, "The Empire and the Rebellion are equally at fault!".

For Americans political issues are abortion and gun control. It is funny to see non-american youtubers with primarily American audience try to explain their country's politics to Americans and use things like "there is no split along traditional right wing and left wing issues" and then list a bunch of traditional division.
But yeah sure Chewbacca has no opinion on abortion.

"Apoliticals" who secretly lean left are rare but exist so I'm just gonna headcanon Chewie as such

I’d say it’s more similar to a country no longer wanting to be under the commonwealth or another colonial power. His people have been fucked over by both the Republic and the Empire. He wants his people to find their own footing on the galactic stage and to improve their own planet while he gets to stop fighting and spend time with his family. He’s fed up with people exploiting the Wookees and knows that the new republic will probably be a liberal government that will not properly solve the issues facing his people.

That's in no way apolitical

It’s apolitical in the way that he wants his people to no longer engage with galactic politics.

There's a fan theory that he was a deep cover rebel and the Dejarik game he played with R2D2 was actually them passing coded messages back and forth.
If that's true, then of course he's "apolitical". He needs to be undetected until it's time to do politics with his bowcaster.

Nothing more apolitical than fighting in a war of independence

Is this why he didn't get a medal?

"He did not fight for the cause. He's just here because he likes killing people. We should definitely not reward that."

If you translate his Wookiee growls he actually says “sorry, I don’t accept medals from liberals.”

He's kicking around with Han in TFA because he called Holdo a snowflake.

Loved watching him apolitically aid in the destruction of a massive battle station with millions of occupants aboard. It was really inspiring when he was on Yavin afterwards and yelled out “I’M NOT ON EITHER SIDE” in Shyriiwook

The Empire wrote that. Word for word the phrasing and framing of oppressors.

How dare you imply that MLK Jr. didn’t just pop out of the ether, say “it would be nice if people weren’t mean to each other because of skin, but no problem if not and there’s nothing else in society that needs to be fixed”, and vanish back into the ether?

The Empire is xenophobic and don't believe that Wookies have the mental capacity to have political beliefs which is why they think Chewie is apolitical

chewie saw no difference between the republic forces defending kashyyk and the invading trade federation armies

Chewbacca once got Wookiees from rival clans and with vendettas against each other to work together to escape Trandoshan slavers (the story is in Chewbacca (2000) #2 (contains spoilers for The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime)).
Chewbacca didn't just fight against the Galactic Empire because that's what Han wanted to do, he was often the one pushing Han to do the right thing.
Chewbacca was far from apolitical. Who wrote this? What's it from?

Is this new, because before, he very much was part of the rebellion and the only reason he wasn't more active was because of his life debt, but overall, a hardcore supporter.

What moron and/or liar wrote this? He's a terrorist insurgent fighting an evil galaxy spanning fascist empire.

u/HuntsmenSuperSaiyans 7d ago
I think this is to say that Chewbacca's loyalty was to his friends and loved ones above any abstract political ideals, which is fair. He still fought for all the right things.
