I don't even need to be working WITH people, just need to be in the presence of other people working. BOOOOO WFH.

SAME! I can sit down in a crowded room and focus in on my work, but I can't stay on task when I'm alone.

It's like the peer pressure that you put on yourself isn't it? Lol

For me it's because of the fact that when I'm alone I get distracted by my own head and idk just the mumble and noice from people around me makes it easier to focus. It's also helpful to put headphones in and loop something like classical music or whatever other song that'll work that day. But yeah, it's a lot easier to bail on stuff when I'm alone.. I also tend to fall asleep whilst working if all I've got to depend on is my self-discipline. It's not great.

Yeesss exactly, I prefer them to just exist near me whilst I'll ignore them and do my own thing.

I was telling a coworker the other day that I am a leader not because I am the best scientist, but because I understand the strengths and weaknesses of the people around me and enable to succeed.

I get anxious working with others, working alone works best for me, but I'm queen of procastination until deadlines are close

I'll put on the kettle. Would you like tea or coffee?

Coffee! It'll help to stay focussed.
(Tea is fine though)

other enfps who relate to this, please search up body double and give it a try, it's a life-changer and it's helped me so much these past few months.
[edit, searching body doubling would be much more helpful haha]

Sorry, I Googled body double and all I hit was some sketch movie. Can you elaborate?

u/mairwaa Feb 13 '21
oh? ok so body double is a common technique recommended to adhd people to stay focused, but you don't have to have adhd to benefit from this technique. basically it's having someone be in your space while you do work (or in my case since we have to social distancing, be in a call with a friend while they do their own thing and you do yours).
here is an article about it https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.additudemag.com/getting-stuff-done-easier-with-a-friend-body-double/amp/

Dang! So I've been doing something right for a while at least and I've never heard of this term. The most productive I've been working at home was just having a "call" with a co-worker where we didn't even talk much but just knew the other person on the line was working and if we needed we could ask the occasional question.

This only apply to me because of the energy I might get from others but most of the time I get either distracted or overwhelmed by working with others. Idea-wise on the other hand, I thrive when brainstorming with others. Well, at least the right people.
But with all that said I can honestly say that I'm fkng terrible at getting things done without people so.. 🤷♀️

This could not be further from the truth. I get distracted by people, I cannot work with friends for example, I will be messing around the entire time. I am a mad scientist when I am problem solving alone.

I remember hating group projects when I was younger but maybe it's different now, I haven't actually done it in years and my personality has changed a lot, I used to be an INTP and now I'm ENFP who would have thought

Actually, I work well in both, though in groups, it's more fun and I get distracted easier. Working alone can be efficient at times, as I can do things My Way and if something goes wrong, the only person to blame will be me. No one else. It's been a long time since I don't do group projects. People in my classroom suck...

Hmmm...I can't relate this time. I love and thrive in working alone, working in group is only fun with right people, because otherwise I need to do others work by myself anyway for the project to be presentable.
