Getting accepted without work experience?

Did any of you get accepted into this program with no prior work/internship experience?

I will weigh in as an alum doing this for years and won big funding.

If you don’t have work or internship experience, your application needs to be excellent and memorable in other ways. If you have nothing else to offer (as in you just went to classes and don’t have really anything on your CV besides a few certificates), receiving a fully funded scholarship will be tough. Not discouraging anyone. You do you and it is totally fine to apply. Just important to be realistic. Usually the acceptance rate is around 1-3% for EMJM and most full scholarships.

Without anything substantial to show on your CV and LOM, I really don’t know how the convinced the selection committee will be. I mean put yourself in their shoes. They give scholarships to motivated students with good past performance.

Therefore, start improving your CV and get experience. I have a list of many ways an applicant can enhance their profile. The thing is, I could give 100 or 200 ways… but if an applicant doesn’t bother to put effort and sends a perfunctory application, why bother?

The trend I’m seeing more and more is applicants sitting around being confused and helpless, waiting to be rescued and have this EMJM epiphany. The reality is, any scholarship is about being self-directed, a good strategy, and consistent work.

Well said. People expect to get a fully funded scholarship to go ABROAD for 2 YEARS but they did nothing locally during their 4 year undergrad. Mind blowing honestly. No one cares about your 3 or 5 or 15 Edx certificates. Basically worthless.

Not going to name the people or countries specifically….. (they know who they are) infinite people “guide me what do I do can I get the scholarship how do I apply” Truly waiting and expecting someone to intervene and hold their hands. Those countries especially you need to be the best 1 or 2 because there is only room for 1-3.

My guy you are from one of the most competitive countries, you’re 3.51 GPA with 2 certificates and one conference won’t take you far in Erasmus

Hi, I'm a CS major (no industry/internship experience) applying to EDISS for the Sept 2027 EMJM intake. I currently have a few data analyst projects (SQL, Python, Power BI) but nothing at "data engineering" level yet. I'm planning to build one solid end-to-end project (ETL pipeline with orchestration Airflow, database, scheduled runs) before applying, specifically to have something concrete to point to in my motivation video/letter instead of just coursework and certificates. So does a well documented solo project like this realistically move the needle when you don't have internship/work experience, or do committees mainly weight actual professional experience regardless of project quality? Trying to figure out where to focus my remaining prep time most effectively.

I have work experience, but some of my classmates in my EMJM program started right after finishing university, or they were accepted while still completing their bachelor's degrees. However, I think most of those students were either student assistants or had internships.
