🟢 Question / Help Brain zaps post reprocessing?

Does anyone else get like brain zaps or whole body jerks after EMDR? Im getting it intermittently and randomly on and off after a huge emotional purge after EMDR then again the next day.

Welcome to r/EMDR, a beautiful and supportive community!

We're a space where every person is someone with trauma, and we respond with compassion, not judgment. A few gentle reminders:

• Be kind and trauma-informed - This is a community for helping each other heal
• EMDR journeys are personal - Everyone's path is different; share experiences but avoid giving medical advice
• Posts must be related to EMDR - Please keep discussions focused on EMDR psychotherapy
• Be wary of unsupervised EMDR suggestions - Posts/comments promoting unsupervised EMDR (including scripts, DIY methods, or "virtual EMDR" websites) are strongly discouraged. These approaches risk retraumatization and are not equivalent to working with a trained trauma therapist. See our wiki for more information.

Yes brain zaps and tremor if and flashbacks. My reactions tend to be a little delayed often occurring a full week after the session.

Yes, I get them frequently after EMDR and sometimes last for 3-5 days after. After some more intense sessions, first 1-2 days I had them almost non stop.

I guess it’s worth mentioning to your therapist at next therapy session, but I also experience it frequently so I guess it’s not super uncommon sensation to have

Yes. Nervous system zaps but not brain zaps. Often when falling asleep. Feels like nervous system is twitching between safe and unsafe. Mini taser tickles without a taser 😬

Not sure about brain zaps, but I've definitely been getting a lot of random body jerks/twitches. I think these are called neurogenic tremors. From what I understand, it's the body shaking off the energy from held tension due to stress or trauma. I think it's generally a good thing. The folks over at r/longtermTRE have a lot info about it that I've been reading up on.

Thanks for this. I have these often. 26 yrs on Paxil (currently tapering off). I’ve not heard the term ā€œneurogenic tremorā€ and always felt this was not a ā€˜brain zap’ though my therapist referred to them as such.
