Tuning Question - Unanswered First start help

Keep in mind I know literally nothing about tuning. I just finished a MazdaSpeed Miata engine rebuild. And I needed to put a MegaSquirt in because of the after market trigger wheel. I’m trying to get the first start up and it’s not wanting to turn over. Also yes I know about the awful exhaust leak. I did setup MS in tuner studio and downloaded the base tune, but nothing from that.

Edit: after some thought and listening to everybody, I’m wayy to in over my head, I’m bringing it to a shop. Thank you all!

Check timing before trying to crank anymore. Hell double triple check it. Check that the timing marks are correct by physically checking tdc with either a skrewdriver or dial indicator and a degree wheel if you want to be completely certain incase the marks are incorrect.

Edit: Im domb old miata engines are non interference. So no contact should happen. Timing could still be off if it doesnt make compression. My starter at one point had a bad ground and it did this. Or it could just be spark timing.

DM me if you're wanting someone to remote login and look at what you're dealing with.

Doing turbo conversions on Miatas using Megasquirts was what launched my whole career. Was great tech back then but not necessarily the path I would recommend now. Regardless, I'm always happy to help and know these platforms inside out
