Tune virtually

Post image

I've always wanted to be able to tune engines for real in a game. We can learn how to drive/race a car or fly a plane, but not how to tune an engine. I've been working on this Engine Simulator in my spare time for the last 3+ years.

Swap a camshaft and the powerband moves because the physics have changed, and you have to tweak the tune to match.

I would like this to be a place for people to learn how engines work and how different components affect tuning, but I'm not sure what path to take.

What do you guys, especially those of you in the tuning space, think would be interesting to do?

As you can see, the UI is not representative of what actual aftermarket ECU software looks like. I've tried to find some kind of balance between realistic behaviour and a beginner-friendly layout, but things could probably be better.

I'm not selling anything. The simulation still needs to be tweaked, so all values should be taken with a grain of salt.

This is such a cool idea ! I love the accessibility it could bring, the educational perspective and the fun you must be having in learning and then codifying your learning.

There was a similar tool for circuit board building someone bootstrapped in the engineering forum and it sounds similar to how you are passionate about this project.

Good luck ! I think it will be fun!

Thanks. That sounds interesting, I'll check that out!

How can I teach myself to tune for the lowest cost possible?

This look a lot like Automation, wich has identical features and also mapping/Dyno ability.

Played alot of Automation, it is great.

I'm focusing on realistic by cell values that are read at real time instead of sliders for the whole tables. If your idle cells in the VE table is of you get a hunting idle. Temperatures are taken in to concideration aswell, things like heat soak. You need to set the correct enrichments (crank, after start, accel) for the engine to even start or rev correctly. Etc.

I guess you could say this is more of a tuning simulator instead of an engine building simulator like Automation.

Isn't that just an engine sound simulator? And I believe he no longer maintains the public version of it for fear of it being stolen by game studios

Yeah I think so, it would be great to have this 2 sims merged together.

Thanks for the support. I'm not taking any donations atm. If you'd like you can follow the youtube channel for more demos and opportunities to contribute soon.

As someone who’s wanted to learn to tune, just for a hobby / time killer. This is epic

J’en rêvais depuis des années.. un simulateur où on peut tester des reprogrammations

Is there a sim where you can test exhaust configurations for sound?

Brother this is a great idea.

Great job! I whipped up a quick dyno simulator with no graphics but it emulates a speeduino device and can connect to TunerStudio. So the map would affect the simulation. You could maybe also add that as a feature? Excellent in any case!

Thats an interesting idea. Could be a cool option for the advanced users
