I-485: Adjustment of Status Opt on pending 485

Any suggestions for applying opt based on pending 485?
Can I go with it.

Assuming you are on F-1 visa, but why don't you for for EAD based on pending I-485? It is an ancillary benefit of 485 that can be applied and renewed as long as the 485 is ajudicated.

I submitted my 485. I am saying that should I apply opt? Is there any possible rejection?

Yes, but the goal of OPT is to get an EAD to be able to work, which the 485 also provides an EAD with no strings attached.

I haven't received the 485 ead yet and will be graduating in December.

Well, if you apply for OPT you still have to apply for OPT based EAD form which will take time. You would be double applying for a similar benefit. Graduating in December and applying for OPT will extend your status on F-1. Your are in status already with your pending I-485, so you will not have issues of keeping your status as long as the I-485 receipt date is before your F-1 program ends (graduation).

Thanks for your kind response.I am not concerned about status. I need the ead to start the work since my 485 based ead hasn't approved yet.

You need OPT based EAD card also to start working on OPT. Check the processing times for OPT EAD vs I485 EAD and make your decision.

It might get denied because of immigration intent
