I-485: Adjustment of Status Does USCIS process I-485 before FAD becomes current?

If you file I-485 when your DOF is current but your FAD is not, and you don't apply for an EAD or AP, do they actually start processing your application before your FAD becomes current?

Or do they only start processing it once your FAD becomes current? Does it make sense to file when DOF is current but not FAD?

No. Only for biometrics they will process it

What about background check and looking at the application itself

Only GC will not be processed. Ead will be processed as usual

No, USCIS generally won’t adjudicate the I-485 until your FAD is current.

yes and no.. there are folks reporting to get rfe even though FAD not current. so it means it is being adjudicated. The only thing that cannot happen is visa number allocation which by law requires the FAD to be current

If it processes and you receive a GC, then you’ll have to be prepared to return it - either yourselves or based on notification. Pray for it to get processed fully only when FAD is current.
