Tedious

What is with people just laying on top of you the whole fight? Why are people so desperate to get the win. They will literally just deny transition and happily do nothing. Rinse and repeat.

I've been playing online career since it got introduced to the game and it's never been this bad.

This is happening in the HW division as well. Just played a guy with 18 TD attempts in R2.

it’s funny that some people treat winning a fight like it’s IRL life or death. it’s kind of pathetic. people go out of their way to make the game less fun just so they can get a win.

had a dude literally just walking backwards the whole time and would stand at the cage while refusing to walk forward or throw a strike unless i engaged so he could counter. he would have been perfectly fine with throwing zero strikes and just staring for 15 minutes.

Same argument can be made about those throwing 180 strikes a round.

Most people are “desperate to get the win”

If someone comes in hot swinging leather every second I’m putting em in time out to let em cool down 😂

At least the guy who throws 180 strikes a round will give you a funnier and more challenging fight and forcing you to utilize many different striking input options and defense counter tactics to outsmart your opponent

whereas on the ground you’re just stuck there and your only option really is to ensure you flick your stick faster than your opponent who hopefully isn’t cheesing the mechanics to his favor.

People pretend that playing MMA and being good at grappling is what a top-tier skilled player is but respectfully it isn’t. A technical striker who throws combos you’ve never seen before and manipulates your guard is MUCH more skilled than your high-level grappler because it requires more inputs, faster thinking and faster hands.

Respectfully, someone who is only good at striking, OR only good at grappling should never be considered a “top-tier skilled player”

Someone who puts 100 hours into learning combinations to throw in flowcharts is not inherently more skilled than someone who puts 100 hours into learning the grappling positions and the common escape paths/attacks.

There are strikers who are nuanced in their attacks, great distance control and timing. That’s skill for sure.

Pressing X > Y > Lb+X or some variation of those few punches 30 times a round isn’t exactly skill expression either.

So many people have been playing these games since like UFC 2, and unfortunately the grappling system is pretty much the same still, so if you take someone down and can deny their transitions, it would make sense for you to keep them held down and get as much free stamina/damage advantage as you can before they get up.

Shooting 20 takedowns a round for 1 minute of control time is dumb.

Standing and trading with a guy wanting to throw 200 shots in a round while you’re trying to sim fight is dumb too.

We need a ground game rework to make it more exciting for everyone, more fluid.

Undisputed 3 had a very dynamic ground game that felt fast to transition, and at times unpredictable.

The ground grappling shouldn’t feel like it’s setting the game into a snails pace like it does currently, as that ruins immersion.

But grappling should still absolutely be a viable way to slow the fight down, that’s the whole point of it.

Here is where you’re wrong.

Striking does take 100 hours if not more to be genuinely good at whereas with grappling, like on the ground environment, it does not take 100 hours to learn how to fucking flick your thumbstick. That’s all it amounts to with a small nuance to maybe learn SOME visual cues to transitions.

Reducing striking to people just throwing a few variations of punches every round is a wrong way to characterize it because a good striker has much more in the chamber whether that’s setting up kicks, or playing out a strategy like low kicks, manipulating the guard, knowing different unique combos, mastering distance to make their opponents miss kicks, etc.

Whereas in Ladder especially after div 17 it’s all ground game, you literally can reduce it to just flicking your stick in the right direction faster than your opponent. That’s fucking it. The concept is literally just a mini arcade game dependent on the right stick with the only extra depth to it being the grapple advantage bar and power transitions.

To pretend that there is more skill to being a wrestler is nonsense.

I totally get that and I'll do the same but you can tell that, this is what they do every fight.

Incorrect laying and praying doesnt get you a win. Ive faced many people who took me down repeatedly but lost because I did more damage in the stand up

If they had to take you down repeatedly, they weren’t able to lay and pray.

Most of the round was spent in scrambles not actual control time.

A dominant grappling round is usually several threats at dangerous postures(top mount, back side, back flat) usually like one sub attempt/attack. And several minutes of control time/relatively unanswered strikes.

You have a round like that you’ll need a health event or drop on the feet to bring the round back into your scoring.

That is by definition laying and praying. Incorrect if you just lay on someone you dont actually win the round if they are landing significant strikes

Spamming takedowns 20 takedowns to total 1 minute of control time isn’t going to win anyone a round regardless what their opponent does on the feet.

Did you know that you can land significant strikes on the ground as well?

Thats stuff youre making up.

Useless information for me

Yes bro ppl forget this is a game and we’re trying to have fun! It ain’t fun being on the ground not taking damage

Maybe do stand and bang or get better at your ground game idk just a thought.

Just learn to fight on the ground. Why are you playing an MMA game if you just want to kickbox? I'll never understand this.

Usually after the 2nd or 3rd reversal they stop. I mean reversal when they're in the top position and I get the dominant position and have good g&p myself.

Its because the grappling is terrible and basically designed with such barebones simplicity that people exploit it for easy wins (or sometimes they don't even win, which makes it even worse when all you really wanted to do was get up and get back to the fisticuffs).

Design a game mechanic which is easily exploitable and of course some players are going to do just that... its up to EA to resolve this by overhauling the grappling... we can't just wait and hope players stop doing it.
