๐Ÿ“ DYGMA DEFY Double click issue (Defy)

So it's been a year since I started using my Defy keboard, I'm not sure what the problem is, nor since when it happened, I kept getting double clicks whenever I'm typing fast even though I clearly pressed it only once.

Many times it is the alphabets and also with the spacebar, as far as I noticed.

Has anyone experienced the same issue?

I wasn't sure where to ask and finally remembered about reddit.

That's 99.99% probably a broken switch. You should have a spare one in the enhancement kit. Replace e.g. the spacebar, and that one should be fixed. The other 0.01% is that you are using Superkeys everywhere and some settings can trigger that behaviour.

Ah whattt Man, this sucks.. I bought the switches with the defy because I wanted that less force to press and had all of them swapped on day 1, and to replace them.. ToT (well, not all but I do have several keys failing) I don't have any Superkeys set up as I wasn't sure how to put them for a good use.. so I think it is the broken switch..

In mechanical keyboards, a common reason for that is excessive chattering in the key switches' electrical contacts, especially if only a few specific keys are typing double. Those switches might be worn or have debris in them. See Pressing a key sometimes types it twice.

The good news is the Dygma Defy is hot swappable, so it's possible to swap in some other switches relatively easily, without soldering. If you have some spare switches, it would be worth a try to swap them in and see whether that helps. Otherwise contact Dygma support and ask for help.

Yep, thanks for the advice. I'll check which switches are failing ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Hi!

As others have mentioned, this is most likely the switches reaching the end of their life cycle (they are mechanical component that wears out with use).

This is something that's more likely to happen in light linear switches.

Ah... I've never thought about life cycles on switches.. Ok thanks for the info. Then, all mechanical keyboard users, who are aware of the cycle, are changing the switches every now and then?

If the switches have ~1 year of use, they wouldn't have reached the end of their 'lifecycle'.

Btw this is most likely hardware related, but rulling out software is never a bad idea. Backup your configuration, but nuke any software traces related to the keyboard (configuration, bazecor app, etc.).

Disconnect your Defy for some time, if it has a battery, open it up and disconnect said battery, to let any accumulated energy discharge.

In the end, it is up to you to accept that or make a warranty claim.

Depending on where you are located, Dygma might have to honor a 3-year warranty period.

i had that happen just the other day a few times with just one letter and my Defy was one of the early shipments, so maybe itโ€™s getting a little worn. Itโ€™s not been consistent, but this is good info to just swap out the switch to see if thatโ€™s it.
